Hey! How did you guys find out that you have this condition? Is this a common thing for diabetics to get? I've often wondered if I have it. Any light you can shed on the subject would be helpful. Thanks!

Diabetic and coeliac anyone?

Hello everybody! I'm new to this site and I was wondering if there are any diabetics out there that also have coeliac disease?

Hi Valeria! The early bolus really made a BIG difference for me. It's not always easy to do (for example, when I am in a rush, I don't wait), but it helped my A1c SO much because we eat around 3 times a day and are high for 2+ hours every time after eating. I hope that this will help you, but please be careful and test a lot until you know what is the right time to wait.

When I do it right, I am not above 9 mmol/L two hours after eating!

Hi Valeria! Good to know that someone is in a similar situation as I am!

Your A1c is better than my last one (7.9). I find that for me MOTIVATION matters the most!

The pump indeed helped me a lot. I got my A1cs down to around 6.5 for a year using the pump and early bolusing (giving my insulin about 20 minutes before eating -- this really reducing post meal highs, if you are struggling with post meal highs, try giving your insulin 5 minutes earlier until they are gone--- must measure a lot to avoid BAD lows!).

Keep me posted on how you are doing! I think that I will get my A1c measure next week. I'm really hoping it should be under 7 as my numbers have been better recently!

It's amazing what our future children can get us to do!! :)

I just turned 37, I was diagnosed at the age of 12. I have several blogs that I have wrote about my life with Type 1 Diabetes, but they are in archieves right now :). I manage to keep an upbeat, semi positive attitude even after 25 years with Type 1 Diabetes (and a few minor complications).

TU is a wonderful site... hope you stick around. Drop by my page any time and say "hi".

Hi and welcome Valeria!

Um, wow... we were diagnosed within months of each other.... If you do not mind me asking, how old were you when diagnosed w/ type 1 Diabetes?.
