Yes. I, also, hid this for years. I felt different and that noone would want me with this disease. I spent most of my life as a recluse. When I got the pump about 5 years ago, I really had not choice, but to tell people. ie: signals going off, dos...

Hi Vanessa, I've had diabetes for 26 years now (T1), and I've found that my motivation for improving my A1c waxes and wanes. I am currently motivated to improve my number (most recently 7.6 I think) and get it below 7. I totally understand your n...

I was diagnosed about a month ago. After reading about all the things that could happen form bad control, I knew I would never want to experience them.

Hi Vanessa, I just want to say I can totally understand where you are coming from. I have had diabetes type 1 for 31 years and have been in denial for years. I have five healthy children, and the only time I tested my blood sugar regularly was whe...

Hi Vanessa... when I was diagnosed, I was very good for about two years before I started doing everything I shouldn't have done throughout college and my early 20s. I'm also lucky I have no complications, but the turning point for me was when I wa...

Why can't you exercise until your sugars are "good?" Mild exercise can help you lower them. Or does hypothyroidism complicate that? Just curious.

About Me:

I am a quirky weird creative person. I used to be hairdresser until I hurt my back at work, went to the hospital and then was hit by a car while leaving the hospital. It was a bad day.

Now I work as Communications Coordinator for a Media Arts organization. I really believe that things happen as they should.

I love books and old typewriters and poetry and my cat and birds and bones and thrift stores and fine-point pens and sewing and libraries and my bike and yoga and vegetables and thesauri.

hello Vanessa, like your profile, think i'll do one but i'm a bit boring at the minute. my bloods were only on track for a year after i was diagnosed, then again while i was pregnant. the rest of the time i just pretended not to have the thing, i also liked being skinny. now though i have to deal with retonopathy, its really scary now, i even ignored that for a few years, but i got a fright recently. i keep starting the day off well, but thenit all goes down the tubes in the afternoon. i am so so glad to know that there are other people out there like me too. we will never give up though and imthink its a good idea to break the day down into little sections. good luck honey.

Welcome, Vanessa!

I must say I totally love the city you live in. Vancouver is a super cool city... I have had many good times there. I have a few pictures on my page that were taken in the Vancouver area.

Hope to see you around the board!

Cheers!

Danny

HI Vanessa,
Welcome to the TuDiabetes family.

We have two things in common... three:
1) I love Vancouver!
2) I run a nonprofit, the Diabetes Hands Foundation, that runs TuDiabetes.
3) I am on a Minimed pump too.

That is one of the things about the community: you find lots and lots of people just like you.

To help you with this, I recommend you click on the Groups link at the top and search for the Canada group (we should start creating a West Canada group soon, since we are getting so many folks from BC, like Toni was pointing out before me) and also search for the Pumping Our Insulin and the Minimed groups. These groups have several hundred members that have something in common with you.

Hope you find ALL the support and info you came looking for and WELCOME to regaining the control of your life with diabetes, Vanessa!

Hey Vanessa, I just welcomed another new member from Vancouver. There seems to be quite a few from BC on here. You should search the groups and find out if there's one from your area. I'm from just south of you in Washington state. I think you'll find this a very supportive site:)

hi Vanessa. I've had it for 41 years and it's been kicking me around a lot lately. TuD has helped me cope and accept. Here's a good discussion we had about how to get yourself back on track.

I'm glad you decided to join us. We are here for support, not to blame or shame.
