Hi Verity - there are so many hidden nooks and crannies here at Tudiabetes, I just discovered this now! I had posted a blog about my experience with Diabetic Mastopathy. Hopefully what occurred with me, with my doctors not knowing what was the cau...

Hi Verity, some PCTs will fund CGMS based on individual circumstances. Severe hypo unawareness and pregnancy seem to be two common ones. I'd contact Medtronic and see if their local rep can help - they'll know if any PCTs locally have funded CGMS ...

Last i hear they dont fund them in the UK. If you have a minimed realt-time then they can cost up to £50 a week. This shocked me greatly as i agreee that it should really be funded alongside our pumps....i certainly would feel a lot better knowing...

Hi Verity I'm Dad to Poppy (11, type 1, Medtronic 722 + CGM). We're in the process of trying to get funding for the CGM but are currently paying for this ourselves. I wondered if you managed to make any progress on this one or you have heard from...

I've got lump tissue in my breast. The only good thing is it isn't cancer which is the first thing I thought of. I had a quick look on the internet but I don't like reading into things like this. I have been told that I have nothing to worry about...

Ok, i've started pumping

Ok so I've started pumping. Had a traumatic first night. The no insuling delivery alarm went off and had the change the set. I was in horror. I was due to go back the next day to hospital to go through changing the set but knew I had to do it on my own. I was in panic mode but read through the book and with the help of the helpline succesfully did it. Been running quite high during the day but seem to have sorted out the basal rate for night time now. I know it will take a while and understand I… Continue

Thank you everyone

I just want to say thank you to everyone that left extremely kind messages. I have made a decision to go ahead with pumping on 16 Jan. I had previously decided to start pumping with insulin but have now realised that saline may be best for the first week. You are right, my dad would not have wanted me to delay it after waiting so long. My mum is Type 1 too and not particularly knowledgeable about diabetes so I guess that the more I learn about it, the better I will be able to help her care for h… Continue

Tragically my Dad died on Saturday 22 December of a heart attack. I am absolutely devastated and dont know how we will ever get over it. He was was the most amazing and fantastic, Dad, Grandad and Husband and will be missed by us greatly. I am due to go on the pump on 16 Jan but not sure whether I should go ahead with this or to put it on hold. I dont know if I can deal with it right now. I am so very very sad.

Hi Verity,

I just spotted your post after leaving a very similar one myself. I was wondering which hospital gave you funding? My hospital is St Georges and they applied to my PCT (Croydon) last November but I am still waiting to hear back. I really would love a pump and cgm. My diabetes nurse said if I were to get funding it would be with Cozmo...Mini-med looks better to me but I'm not going to be fussy if I get funding. I figured out there would be no way I would get funding for cgm (my GP even hates prescribing blood sticks!)

Would love to hear how you are supported in the UK- all pumpers/cgm ers seem to be American/Australian.

(PS I work in Wallington at Wilson's School!)

Hi Robert
It looks like I might be delaying the pump a little. My father tragically died of a heart attack on Saturday and we are absolutely devastated and I dont think I can take on board learning and coping with going on the pump right now. This is the worst thing that has ever happened in my life and has hit my family very bad. I will let you know what happens. I am glad you are doing ok. Keep well and will catch up soon. Verity

Oh Man! I'm sorry it was pushed back to the 16th of January. That just sucks but I guess it comes along with the Diabetes territory. I hope the time flys by after the holidays and it gets here quicker than it actually seems. I am somewhat waiting for a specific date as well in Febuary for my races to start up again. hehe

When I got my pump, I had to wait a month to go to the doctor (he was 8 hours away) to get th elast bit of training and set up for it! Always a hurry up and wait situation huh? :)

I am doing a little better, not in the hospital yet. I am hurting some times, and it is not fun. I just am not going back to the hospital unless I have problems breathing now with the pain. I have heard from a few people that hav had the extensive surgery like Ihave and some of them have said they have hurt between 1 and 5 years after the surgery, so I might have a while to think abou this stuff . ~Laughes~ Oh well, guess I can think fo rougher situations Ihave been in, just hard to compare, this stuff is just so demanding in perfomance. But so far so good and I hope that 2008 is a little differnt, I'm tired of bein gin the hospital and missing work.

Have a great and SAFE holliday season.

I wish you well.
