Sounds like you're certainly on the right track. Does reading once a day really help? Your bg changes after every meal. I guess if you're doing it before eating in the morning and tracking any day-to-day changes you'd have a good baseline reading....

Your diet regimen should be required reading for anyone diagnosed as prediabetic. The only thing to add is exercise 30 min per day. I was diagnosed as prediabetic 2 years ago when I had a bg reading of 126 in a routine exam. I argued it was a fals...

i'll definitely go slow. the other day i was playing with my grandson and threw myself backwards on the bed with upraised arms. your arms are suppose to bounce on the bed along with you. my right arm did, the left one got to about 4 inches off the matteress and i was crying out in pain. stretches are definitely in order. i'll have to pull out the rubber bands that they gave me the last time i had trouble with it. what i'm interested in knowing is this what is concidered frozen shoulder? i never get an answer, explaining exactly where on or around the shoulder frozen shoulder is. all i know is that the pain is about three or four inches down from my shoulder in my arm. the doctor told me that's where all the tendons and everything else come together. guess it really doesn't matter what the name is as long as i can make it go away. thanks for the advise with the ball. i will definitely get a ball and start trying out some new tricks.

Beef & black bean burritos, with a twist

Tonight I revisited an old friend, the beef & black bean burrito. However, I recreated the recipe with my new penchant for lightening the fat content of my meals.

First off the black beans were cooked without the benefit of chicken broth. I went a little heavier on the granulated garlic and cumin, and the result was very tasty. Second, the meat was a 50/50 mixture of ground beef and ground turkey. Not only do I like the resulting flavor, but turkey represents a significant reduction in fat.… Continue

Zucchini & Kielbasa Flatbread Pizza

Steff and I revisited our flatbread pizza experiment. I picked up turkey kielbasa (very little fat, and it's cheaper) and a couple of zucchini at the grocery store. We also bought Flatout Low-Carb Flatbread in the Italian herb variety. We used the remainder of the diced green onions and diced tomato from last week. Olive oil spread… Continue

Monster Chicken with Roast Brains

I'm a little late posting here, but I made this in celebration of Halloween.

I've been making my own variations of Monterey Chicken for several weeks now. Last time I realized I was using Muenster rather than Monterey Jack as the primary cheese. Between that and the time of year, Mon… Continue

Shepherd's pie and spinal issues

Steff stayed over several nights last week because grandma was visiting family in Los Angeles. I didn't want to leave mom alone. I'm very glad she did, and not just because she's the most awesomest girlfriend evar!!!1! (heh) Having company inspired us to get back into the kitchen.

Mom made shrimp linguini on Thursday night. No cream sauce this time - just a little juice from the oven-roasted shrimp with lemon, chunks of garlic, & grated parmesan. We used to order the same dis… Continue

My first non-food blog!

I've been dealing with a herniated disc (and a bulging disc beneath it) for months now. I was entirely sidelined and quite often bedridden, so my photography took a serious hit. I went back to work (tech support, the day job that's now overnight) a month ago, and today marked my first photo shoot since the injury.

Early this morning I shot with Kristina in Altamonte. The sun came out with a vengeance, so it was incredibly bright and hot. 17 hours later, my eyes are still recovering from… Continue
