Relentless-a-matic said… Hi Yolanda, I have also read Neal Barnards book. I have the Diabetic Solutions book also. I haven't joined that group because I am too new to this stuff to really be an authority with others. Vegan cooking like Barnard's sure seems like its good for health. Bernstein on the other hand is a type 1 who is into carb counting, timing, and the study of blood glucose spikes. Since HgbA1c is a disappointing 6.0, which is an average of 126mm/Dl I don't know if I deserve to be giving advice. The way I did it was only to choose selected fruits with low Glycemic index, and if blood glucose got too high to stop them: those being berries and grapefruit, lemons and lime. Pineapple, Orange juice are some of the highest GI level, mangoes, I stay away from like the plague. Avocados and tomatoes are technically fruit and those are eaten regularly. For me the ADA Levels are too high, and I listen to what Jenny Rahl, says about not having a blood glucose over 140 cause that is where neuropathy starts. She is a type 2, but seems very scholarly. Here its LADA which is insulin dependent l form of diabetes like type 1 but also has the insulin resistance of Type 2..... I just didn't want to stay silent to your post, and give you my input and let you decide for yourself and take it for what its worth. take care
