I got my letter yesterday. I use MEDCO for my part D. I notice they calculate how much is spent on medications by using the entire amount of money spent--by them and me. They aren't just counting the…Continue

Prednisone and high A1c

I told my Internal Med doc that I had taken some prednisone prescribed by an ENT for a sinus infection. I even commented that I didn't want to take it at first, because I knew it would raise my blood sugar, but by the second week, I caved. Was he listening to this? He kept nodding his head and typing on his laptop. I thought he was taking notes. A couple of weeks later (after bloodwork), his nurse called me and said he wanted me to log my bg readings before breakfast and before dinner for two…See More

New taxes on medical equipment

Are we going to be taxed on test strips, syringes, meters? I read Snopes and when finished was just as confused as when I began to read their note. So are we?See More

Health Insurance

Do your doctors decide not to accept certain health insurance companies at the end of the year? Last year my PCP decided not to accept patients who had Blue Cross. There was a long time when many doctors in my area didn't accept United Health. Then they began accepting it again. In the meantime, I'm thinking of not using my endo, but what will I do if my PCP decides not to accept my health insurance? That could be bad. I have Medicare and a supplemental. Maybe it's not a good idea to drop my…See More

I was put on diabetic pills when first diagnosed. After studying, I stopped medication and began controlling type 2 diabetes with diet and exercise. Went on insulin 2004. Have used NovaLog Mix 70/30 since with good results. Recently was hospitalized for blood clot and was put on plain NovaLog using the sliding scale. My blood sugar is still messed up. Went low for two weeks, now going high. This hospital has "hospitalists" who take over the care of all patients and only communicate with one's primary doctor. My endo lowered the amount of insulin I was taking because of the lows. Then the began going high. I'm re-adjusting the amount of insulin I take.

Letter from hospital in response to complaints about diet and medication

Posted on February 2, 2012 at 4:24pm 9 Comments

The patient representative said I was given an injection of 40 units of 70/30 on admission and then the doctor ordered a sliding scale to go along with the 70/30 if needed but the nurse never injected them at the same time. The nurse documented that you did refuse (I did not) all insulin that was ordered after that dose. I complained a lot because they were testing me every two hours all night long, but I did not refuse. I woke up in the middle of the night with someone injecting insulin in…

Paula Deen's ignorance

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 7:52am 1 Comment

I've always liked Paula Deen and was hoping she could become a spokeswoman for diabetes, but after reading her remarks and her first recipe, I realize she has yet to sit down with a good endocrinologist and diabetic dietician before she began giving out advice and recipes.

Most of us on this website know that diabetes is NOT about eating LIGHT. Eliminating cream cheese and butter from a diabetic's diet is not going to change their blood glucose number…

Glad you changed it. Didn't want you to feel ignored that no one commented. So many new blogs daily that the older posts get buried quickly.

Welcome to the family! On this forum you will learn so much. Most of all you will learn that you are not alone. Everyone here is supportive and will provide answers to your questions. Search the site for answers. Read the discussions and blogs for information. There are videos to help you understand diabetes and its treatment. Most of all there is family to talk to and even to vent to, if needed. Welcome home.

Doesn't Walgreens or CVS have a special program for Diabetics. Mine does. DO NOT CHANGE insulin until you talk to your endo. I take NOVOLOG just 3 weeks as APIDRA no longer makes the pen..I take the NOVOLOG 3 times a day and Lantus at bedtime. Let me see what I can find out. I wobder if you wrote to NOVOLOG if they could help you cut down on the price. Reed
