Am I dreaming: Insurance company being nice?

Posted on September 7, 2007 at 8:44pm 5 Comments

Recently, without warning, I started receiving only one vial of Novolog insulin instead of the two I've gotten for the past few years, which isn't enough since I take about 300 units a week through my pump. After going through the typical insurance meshugas and calling my doctor to get a new prescription, I picked up my insulin this afternoon. Once I left the pharmacy I noticed the paper bag my medication was in was bulkier than usual. I burst into laughter when I opened the bag to see it was… Continue

Meditating helps my blood sugars

Posted on September 3, 2007 at 11:24am 1 Comment

Sure, I ate a good breakfast. Okay, I ate a really good breakfast. I ate salad. So my blood sugar has been good all day. But I also meditated this morning, which I do most mornings. I stayed calm, relaxed and present when I visited the cemetery where my grandfather was buried a month ago. I cried along with my grandmother and mother. Then we told him we missed him before getting back in the car to drive back home where we washed our hands in adherence to Jewish faith before we went into my… Continue

LIVING with Diabetes Contest Entry: Type I (Holla!)

Posted on September 1, 2007 at 8:59pm 2 Comments

What’s the best thing about being a person with diabetes? No, that is not a typo. I do mean the best thing. It’s easy to rattle off a list of complaints about diabetes. Too easy. I won’t patronize the educated person with diabetes. Or worse, scare anyone with this illness that already sends alarm bells shrieking. And rightly so.

This illness is deadly and hearing about its complications can be frightening. But it’s much more difficult to find the reasons I keep caring for myself day after… Continue

Jogging helps my blood sugars

Posted on September 1, 2007 at 2:30pm 1 Comment

I have been in Miami since my grandfather unexpectedly died earlier this month. I have been jogging on the beach which has helped my emotional life as well as my blood sugars (the two are usually correlated with me). When I exercise in the gym, I get bored easily. Running near the water must be more inspiring than staring at a cement wall while I am on a stairmaster machine.

Hi Aliya! I wish i had some tips to share about getting a good A1C but to be honest I have no idea what I'm doing right! Whenever I go to the Dr I dread hearing what number he has to tell me, but it always ends up to be good, somehow. For me, part of having good control is having a lot of lows too so I think that is why my A1C is what it is. Also I test every few hours to make sure I'm not going too high and I give a correction bolus if I'm over 150. Hope this helps!
Oh and I'm finding out there's quite a few people who were diagnosed at the age of 4...weird :)

Hey!, I actually made that video awhile back but yes I am using a Medtronic paradigm 522 pump and I LOVE IT, I feel so much more confident in my mm 522 than I ever did with my Omnipod But everyone is different! I would call your city reps so you can see them yourself!

Actually, my limbs are what keep me motivated. I try and do the best that I can (by no means am I perfect). I have a few minor issues but nothing that will keep me from my daily tasks.

Minimed has been nothing but good to me. I have used them since 2002 and I have only had 2 or 3 issues. Each time I did have an issue they had it resolved with in hours, awesome customer service. I have never used another brand of pump so I can not compare.
