- I have multiple other health conditions, and spent most of high school in the hospital before finally getting strong enough to go away to college -- 5 hours away from my family at the University of Maryland. I had to come home after three semesters because I was too sick. I've gotten so much stronger since December, 2006 when I came home. I am redefining who I am. I am not sick, but a person with multiple medical conditions who happens to sometimes get sick, and my t1 is something that is not going to go away any time soon.
I am back in college now to get my bachelors in Public Health and then go onto my Masters of Public Health, both in nutrition counseling, and hope to do the combined program in Masters of Social Work to help people with chronic illnesses, like Diabetes. Somewhere along the way, I hope to become Certified Diabetes Educator. My passion is being able to reach someone else and help them realize that control is important, not just for doctors, CDEs, or parents, but for themselves, to prevent complications down the line, and I love helping teens and young adults realize this message!

I woke up today
to a bright, shining day
my number was good, a 79
and off a meet up where others
i hoped to greet
the smile on my face soon turned
when for coffee 'twas just me and my mother
with numbers still good, a 107 before lunch
off to the next stop we went
and talked and talked a bunch
laughing too along the way and it was a day well spent
