I miss sugar!

Okay, It's Monday, and I still have 4 more days to go of great self-discipline :) I should always do this, but baby steps right? So, my bg's have been better-I just need to get back into the habit of taking my insulin before I eat. I've only taken 17 units of novalog all day, when usually I take at least 35. And, I've only eaten 165g of carbs all day which is a big improvement. But, I'm super hungry, and craving chocolate!!! Well, hopefully 2morrow is even a little better :)

a brand new week!

Today's Saturday, and I've decided to make a change for next week and to start preparing myself now.
So, here's my plan: from Monday to Friday I'll go totally off sugar, stick to a carb limit of 210g or less every day (right now I have no clue what I'm doing-a lot more than that), keep track of my bg's every day, and exercise at least 30 min. a day.
Whew! It makes me tired just thinkin about all that :) No, actually I'm hoping this gives me a lot more energy. Right now I just feel like I could s… Continue

A little about me...

I've been a type 1 diabetic for just about 5 years now. I've been married to the best husband ever for almost 8 years, and have a beautiful daughter who's almost 7.
Of course I never dreamed I'd get diabetes at 21! When I was first diagnosed, I got my A1C down to six something and did everything the doctor told me: measured all my food, did everything at the same time, and took really good care of it. Well, fast forward 5 years to a 8.6, and here I am! A couple years after I was diagnosed, my di… Continue

A1C Results

So, I just got my A1C results back. It's 8.6. Pretty bad, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I haven't done it in about 2 years, so it was about time! But-I'm gonna try to get it down to 6 in six months!! We'll see....
I'm thinking of going on the pump. If anyone has any suggestions/pro's or con's, I would greatly appreciate it!! I met with someone about the OmniPod the other day and it sounds awesome not to be hooked to a tube...but, I wore the sample pod around and it's kind of bu… Continue

Amy---Manny split off a Pacific Northwest/Washington and Oregon Group recently. Please pop over and join. We're looking for ways to eventually plan a meet-up. Maybe as soon as TuD's second anniversary in March! What part of Portland are you in? I'm over north--not too far from Interstate and Going.....Be well!.....

Hi Amy,
So, you are a violinist? I love the Micheal Buble music! You should get out your violin and try to play along! That could be alot of fun! I play violin in the OKC Philharmonic and teach privately. I love music and would consider myself an addict! :) I hope your diabetes control is going well. I am about 6 1/2 months pregnant and my sugars are the best they have ever been in my life. I guess that is what getting pregnant will do! :)

Hey...thanks for the friend reaquest! good luck with getting your bg back on track. I'm sure you can do it. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it either. It's not that high and you are in your 20s. I'm sure I did worse damage to my body in my 20s than that ;) I got the Omnipod a few months ago and really love it, of course I have nothing else to compare it to. It is a little bulky but every time I get up in the night or change my clothes or take a shower, I'm so glad that I don't have to deal with the tether and the pump attached to it somewhow. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Hi Amy! Thanks so much for requesting me. I'm so sorry for taking so long to introduce my self. I just wanted to send you a quick hello, feel free to chat anytime. Unfortunately I don't spend too much time on on the web ( I wish I was more available to interact with the other people on here, they're all great) How long have you been a diabetic?
