Hi, I live in Walnut Creek. Type 1 diabetes diagnosed earlier this year after a 2 year misdiagnosis of Type 2 and high BGL most of the time. Now I'm on the pump and love it.

Hmmm, no shortcuts per se, but it takes me a lot less time to set it up now than it did at first. Just a few minutes in fact. And I've only been on the pump for about 2 months. You'll get more confident and faster at it each time you do it. Good l...

Hi

I'm sending you this message because I see you listed as living in the East Bay. I'm planning on starting a weekly Diabetes Support Group which will be open to all Types, all ages. The purpose will be to create a safe place to share the feelings, thoughts, hopes and fears we all go through as well as share insight and strength for managing our diabetes. It will be in an informal setting and the fee nominal.

My qualifications for facilitating this group are that I am a retired Counselor with over 25 years experience doing groups. I just returned from living for two years in Guatemala and currently teach Psychology online for a Community College.

Perhaps even more important I was misdiagnosed as Type 2 diabetic two years ago; did fine on oral meds for awhile and then my numbers started to climb. After a lot of research and a lot of talking to others I realized I was LADA/1.5 and am now stable on a basal/bolus insulin regimen. Through this experience I went through the anxiety, fear and sense of being overwhelmed by diabetes. Today I live with this disease on a daily basis with both full recognition of how it affects everything in my life and a commitment to living a full rich life outside of Diabetes.

Please contact me here or at zoelula@hotmail.com if you are interested in participating in a support group.

Poster boy...LOL Now that's funny! I'm happy to help in any way I can. Just give a shout. As for the Twitter updates with my BG, that is a function of SugarStats.com which is where I track my diabetes "stuff" since Livestrong.com doesn't have diabetes management built into it. I also share my profile on SugarStats publicly for two reasons, 1)So my support structure can keep an eye on me. (just started using Apidra rapid acting insulin to help control BG while having to eat carbs for training) 2)So I can help others who are struggling with control by using my numbers as a reference. I also have private forums on my web site (http://www.bobavritt.com) to help folks, but they have seen little in the way of use with so many good sites like this one. :)

Thanks for your kind words! I started simply by riding with my kids. I have the basics on my web page here: http://www.bobavritt.com/node/12. Let me know if you are interested in more detail. I'm happy to discuss details. :) Sorry to hear about losing your husband. :(

Well nobody has slapped my hand, so tough luck for them! (It helped to live on the fringe of civilization, where noone dares go to find you to slap you on the hand...[insert laugh/smiley emoticon here]). But seriously, I hope your brother can find some good info and help with the pump. Getting on turned my life around, or at least my attitude about 'beetus.

Cheers, Mike

I hope that you are able to help your brother find a pump. Please note that the exchange of insulin pumps (or any other prescription item) is not permitted in the TuDiabetes community according to the Terms of Use.

But collecting ideas is GREAT :) So also, check out this discussion as there might be some idea to help out!!

Hi,

I saw your post on the pumping insulin group, about your brother wanting a pump but not having insurance. I ran a couple of quick google searches and came across this:

http://www.isletsofhope.com/diabetes/assistance-programs/free-insulin-pump-supplies-1.html

I know some folks on tudiabetes have old pumps they no longer use, having upgraded to newer models. Maybe someone here has one they'd be willing to offer up.

I hope your brother finds what he needs, without breaking the bank. Be forewarned, the supplies are going to be expensive without some insurance coverage.

Best of luck to you both.

Cheers, Mike
