Hola!
Hello! My name is Bea and my pancreas went rogue on me. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2001 and became active in the Diabetes Online Community (DOC) in 2007. This blog is about my life with diabetes, my battle against depression, as well as other chronic conditions.
I decided to start learning more and sharing my experiences with diabetes before my own diagnosis. I grew up knowing that my father had diabetes and I was aware of its many complications. Words like retinopathy and neuropathy were no rocket science to me. When he died in 2000 I channeled my grief through educating myself, creating awareness and joining different fundraising campaigns.
My diagnosis didn’t come as a surprise; I have a history of hypothyroidism, PCOS and insulin resistance. However, I manage to live a happy, healthy-ish life in a nice town north of Chicago. I strive every day to share my experiences and be an advocate for all people with diabetes, regardless of which type.
I was recently honored to join the Diabetes Social Media Awareness (DSMA) Advisory Board and I am co-hosting the DSMA en Vivo show on Blog Talk Radio. Stay tuned!

Loved your bio ♥ I'm Canadian....grew up in Québec. My father also had D., (as do/did many others in the family...a bit of a red thread there!) but when it came knocking on MY door, was when I first sat up and took notice!
I too have a soft spot for cats, AND wee rodents....even beavers :)
