New Me

Posted on July 2, 2007 at 9:09am 0 Comments

I have just joined this site. I have been recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I am 30 years old and a mother of two. This has been a slight shock to me. It has been a lot to deal with. My doctor hasn't sent me to a diabetic educator yet. I am not sure how much carbs I am suppose to eat at a meal. I have been going on what is considered average. 60 grams at 3 different meals and 30 at one snack.

I guess that is all for now.

Since the community was formed back in early 2007, lots of things have changed. Also since then, lots of new members have joined: we're now nearly 11,300 members. So, new members and new features means it never hurts to refresh how things work around the community.

If you haven't read it, I invite you to take a few minutes to go through our New Member Guide. If you have been a member for a while but have let a little dust accumulate on your TuDiabetes account, you will find it very useful.
If you don't find answers to a question you may have, never hesitate to ask. Click on the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page and one of the members of our Admin team (you can see their faces on the bottom right side of any page) will get back to you shortly.

Thanks for the welcome Rebecca - I was diagnosed only 4 months ago and I am still learning- by all means, go to a certified diabetes educator- mine has helped me greatly!
Peace!

Hi Rebecca: Welcome to the "Club". I was diagnosed with Type 2 in 5/2006. If you get a chance, check out the "Article" post on my blog. It is about when I was first diagnosed. Take care.

I was given very little about the diagnoses as well becasue my doctor thought that I already new enougth becasue it ran on both sides of my family. Well in some ways I did but really I didnt becasue the way they treated diabetes when my grandparents were alive is totally diffrent than today. So really I did not know much. Then my doctor got mad at me because I was trying to get as much info as possible to educate myself since he wasnt going to help me. I was able to finally get a diffrent family doctor and I am now seeing an a specialist for my diabetes it took some time to get into both of these new doctors but I am glad I am no longer with a doctor that does not want to help.

Hi Rebecca

Is that a family crest? If you're in Nashua, we're almost neighbors. I work at Kronos in Chelmsford, MA.

My 11-year old son was diagnosed with type 1 almost three years ago. And my sister (also a mother) was just recently diagnosed with type 2. Like you, she was given very little information about the condition.

I'm sure this all feels overwhelming, and more than a little scary, but joining this community will help-- so many folks willing to share information and resources.
