Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP)

Out of curiosity, does anyone have any info on CIDP as relating to diabetes? I saw neurologist today again and she's really leaning towards CIDP due to my results from the nerve conduction testing and other symptoms, etc. I guess next step is ab testing and spinal tap for conclusive dx, but sadly i'm freshly laid off work and switching to wife's insurance starting next month so i don't think i can keep same set of doctors. Any pointers to good info would be great!See More

Wow! That's great! I have a long-standing bee in my bonnett about test strip "adjustments" by insurance companies. My doc currently wrote for 17 strips/ day and, for some reason, BCBS turned it into 14 strips/ day, WTF? If there are even 100,000 people who's rx's have been "whacked" like that, it seems a very reasonable "class-action" and, given the scope of the disease, and number of defendants (every health insurer? Yikes!) the prospect of launching something like that seems eerie, as I can sort of guess how they'd defend it. The cost would be huge and would be the most daunting part but I think that would be an interesting way to press for changed standards and improving the dialogue. Although BCBS just sent me a letter about some sort of health consultancy they're studying. Smert shpionem!

Well, it's not a bad topic. Sometimes I feel like it would be nice to have some more accomodations although my real interest is in getting complimentary test strips and removing barriers to testing? I'll do it just about anywhere but I get ***really*** cranky about insurance companies changing prescriptions, etc. When we are looking at trying to defend cases, we try to hit the defendants well before we spend a lot of money on an untenable position so I presume that as a plaintiff, you'd want to have some devils advocates in what's likely to be and uphill battle? Good luck with it!!

Hi Bob, I wanted to apologize for comments on your blog that, when I thought about them, may have been ill-conisidered, since we don't know the facts of your case. I investigate car accidents and adjust (mostly) bodily injury claims for an insurance company so I am somewhat familiar with some aspects of tort claims. I have no idea what your situation is and, in fact, I *totally* recommend not discussing it here as I always look people up, just in case there are any unusual facts (e.g. green hair, *cough cough* tattoos?) that we wouldn't want to be suprised by?

Bob, I love that quote too. I worked at the Pentagon and mostly worked in information technology in the areas of pay, personnel and manpower for the Navy. I was part of the team that wrote the first online system for the Navy in these areas. It was quite complicated, and I worked alongside men and women in uniform. I'm now also quite involved with a group called "Quilts of Valor". We make quilts for wounded warriors from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. One in our group recently mailed off one to the field hospital in Kandahar. I'm just about done with one now, and will be requesting a destination, I wonder where it will go, who will get it. We want these soldiers to get a homemade quilt as soon as possible to know that the folks here at home think of them and appreciate them.

My dad and g-father were Navy vetrans too. My dad served in the Vietnam war and My g-father served in WWII. So I'm very Navy bound. My daughter served in ROTC in the ARMY when she was in school only b/c that was all that was offered where she went to school. Me??? They weren't accepting women in the services when I was a kid or I would have signed up for the Navy too.
