Hello folks!I'm a relatively new autoimmune diabetic (type 1 or LADA, not sure which), and my honeymoon is ending. Today the endo says he sees me as a good candidate for an insulin pump in the future…Continue

Dissension

I was at the gym and was running a little low during my workout and a lot more low by the time I finished (the glucose I ate wasn't enough). I tested: 47 mg/dL I walked back to my lab and crunched on some more glucose tabs, then sat in a daze for a few minutes. I tested: 122 mg/dL. Peeked at the Dexcom which said holding steady at 43 mg/dL. Stuck my finger again: 82 mg/dL.Some days I think that a cure is a nice thought, but how will that be managed when we can't even get accurate testing?See More

Exhausted

I've not posted for a long time, although I've been visiting periodically. Today, though, I just need to gripe a little. Generally speaking I've got a fairly good handle on my health. It's been a little shakey since I had hand surgery at the end of February which meant about a month off all the exercise I can bring myself to do (hate running; won't run), and since then work has been interfering with getting my desired level of activity going again. So my insulin needs have moved around a…

Being "Out"

Posted on June 29, 2013 at 9:17am 3 Comments

This past week I took part in a wonderful scientific meeting. It was hosted at my home institution, and the local participants were given the same meal plan as the out-of-town attendees so that we could share meals and socialize with them. I'm not going to complain about the food (suffice it to say I'm not surprised at all the college freshman who get pudgier), because having that extra socialisation time really was a great opportunity. The dining hall and the restrooms were on a different…

Take 2?

So my history in brief. I started seeing an endocrinologist last summer because of Grave's disease. I was also showing slightly elevated fasting blood glucose (fBG) at the time, but the endo assured me it was just a side-effect of the Grave's (which is what I figured). After a month on methimazole my thyroid levels started coming down, but my fBG stayed up. This prompted my endo to order more tests and he came back with a diagnosis of T1D. He said I was in the grace period, and wouldn't need…
