New to Ink

I just turned 18 on December 20th and as a birthday present from my parents I'm getting a tattoo :) My brother already has a band around his left arm and my mom has a butterfly on her ankle. I don't have any tattoos, this will be my first. What can I expect as far as diabetes goes? I'm a type 1. Does it affect blood sugar when you get one? Thanks guys!See More

perfection? i think not.

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 2:30pm 9 Comments

Today I went to the endo. The person I usually see, Kelly, is gone now so I saw another lady. She made me want Kelly back.

This lady (forgot her name) started out pretty nice, saying things like "I think you should start measuring your food" to thing more offensive like "If you would take this seriously, you could have perfect blood sugars!" (she meant never too high and never too low. ever.) She went on a whole rant about measuring food and how I could be "the perfect diabetic." She… Continue

Not Gonna Lie, I'm a Bit Frustrated

Posted on December 30, 2010 at 12:21pm 3 Comments

A little over a year ago, we lost my grandpa to colon cancer. My grandma, who we call Mema, isn't really done dealing with that. Plus, her friend from work, Becky, was just diagnosed with colon cancer. So now she's really stressed out and worried about losing her friend the same way she lost her husband.

Then yesterday, she had to put her 2 year old puppy down. The dog, Tiny, had congestive heart failure, pneumonia, AND heart worms. It all sprung up out of nowhere and by the…

Nagging Cousins and Australian Rock Stars

Posted on November 14, 2010 at 12:00pm 2 Comments

The Australian Christian rock band Jael is staying with my cousins. They had a concert at my school Friday night, so I ended up spending the day with them and my cousins Kristopher, Krista, and Kody. My blood sugar was constantly up and down. First too high, then too low. Of course Krista told mom she'd keep an eye on me. The reason I wasn't at home was because it was mom and dad's anniversary and they'd wanted the house to themselves. So the entire day Krista would nag me about checking my… Continue

The Perfect Little Diabetic

Posted on October 1, 2010 at 1:21pm 15 Comments

For some reason it feels like everyone around me (especially my family) is pressuring me into becoming the perfect little diabetic, which we all know doesn't exist. Anytime I forget to stock up on supplies, or I forget something at the house, my family fusses me out for it. I hear things like "jeez Brandi, can't you ever remember?" or "gosh Brandi, you always forget!"

And when my blood sugar is out of control, I get moody just like a lot of us do. What happens then? I get into trouble… Continue

Engaged At Sixteen?!

Posted on July 26, 2010 at 8:03pm 8 Comments

My friend Mindy seems to think she's ready to be engaged. She just turned 16 at the beginning of the month!

Ok here's what happened: we were talking on facebook when she started complaining about how her bf Kendall is thinking about joining the national guard if he cant get the money for college. So she starts going on and on about how if he "leaves her" and joins the guard, she'll have to break up with him because of the distance. (and for this reason, Im praying that if he doesnt…

finally after midterms I am switching to either a regular public school where I would have an aid (in case I pass out) at the public school in my district kids with "chronic illnesses" get aids. I would love to have one because that way she would test me when I started acting weird. I don't feel my lows or highs and usually I refuse to test when I am high or low so I will just get tested. Also on days i dont feel like managing my diabetes my aid will which will be really great. she will be a certified nurse and teacher. I also have an option of going to a special school that operates like a montessori. I am in 10th grade but it is the only one in the entire state and I live 20 minutes away from it. But it only takes 24 kids a semester. So I have to accepted which i doubt I will.

I got a new email is there a way to switch this account to it?

thanks

Hi Brandi! I'm good! How are you? I just saw your message and read your comment on how your meter was "off" and your "angel dog" was ON! That's amazing....I wish that my daughter Jillian had a dog. I'm thinking of so many things that I would love to sit down and just talk to you about. I would love to hear your opinions on so many things. Jillian (and her twin sis Jessica) are ten years old. I think that you would have such a rich insight for me. We recently got Jillian a Dexcom CGM.....I love having it, watching trends and monitoring her during the nights without waking her, etc. However, we've found that she had been going WAY too long without using her meter....relying only on the Dexcom. NOT the intent of the thing!!! And she doesn't like having two sites, so we've taken a week off with-out it. I love the idea of a dog, have there been any drawbacks in your opinion (as a girl of your age) that you have found in having your dog? I could ramble on all night I think :) but I will spare you the pain! LOL! Looking forward to hearing from you. BTW...I love the pics of you and your dog! Just beautiful!
