hello,

Sorry that it has taken months for me to get back to you about the omnipod. I have been on it for three years this December and I have to say that it has been a life changing treatment, for me at least. I did shots for eight years and I would take anywhere from 5-20 shots daily. As you can see, my diabetes is pretty severe. I was stubborn about going on any pump because I was young and didn't want anything attached to my body. While I was taking shots I was hospitalized 5+ times a year and my sugar was so out of control that when I was only in 11th grade(high school), I started to have kidney failure. Once I gave in and started pump therapy, my life has truely changed. I have only been hospitalized once in the past three years and it was due to the fact that I became ill with mono and I couldn't get my blood sugar down because of the illness. When I first got on omnipod I didn't like it because I was having problems keeping it on. I believe it was because my muscles weren't used to having it. Anyways, three years later, I barely EVER have problems with my pump and if one messes up I just call the company and they replace it. I highly recommend the omnipod pump for anyone with type 1 diabetes. One more thing...it is so much better than the other pumps because you don't EVER have to be without insulin. The other pumps you have to detach, and it's not necessary to detach this one which means I get to have a healthy day at the beach or pool!!

Hi,

I've been using the Omnipod for a year now. As an avid cyclist and into total body workouts, I can say it is the best solution for me. My currenty A1C is 6.8, but that's no worse than prior to use of the Omnipod. The most significant complaint I have is that I have knocked about 10 pods off my arm when walking through doors, putting on clothing, or other similar activities......that is a royal pain if you don't have a backup syringe and insuling with you. Lately, I have put extra tape (IV patches mainly) on the pod since I always wear it on my arm and it works out well.

I went back on my old pump with the tube for a few days a while back while waiting for more pods to arrive, and the it drove me crazy while doing day to day activities, let alone being active. If you use the same ratios as you are now using on your current pump, it should be great. I've had 3 pods fail in the year I've been using the Omnipod, and it's always been while priming them so no big deal. Insulet Corp will replace them.

In summary, I highly recommend it, especially if you're active. I am spoiled big time.

Hi there! Sorry for the delay - been a crazy week. Overall, I'm really happy with it. I tried a traditional pump but hated being "tied" to something. It's nice to be able to bolus with just the push of a few buttons. The pump controller also doubles as a Freestyle glucose meter, so at least your meter and the pump controller are all in one. Sometimes it's a little tough in the summer - it's a bit bulky to hide in swimsuits but I manage to find some strategic spots. Pretty happy with it, especially because I did injections for 15 years! Let me know if you have any other specific questions. :)
