Hard to say Goodbye

This past weekend was a sad time around our house. A very good friend of Jim and myself passed away on Saturday from uncontrolled Diabetes. Everyone who knew Stan, constantly was telling him to lose weight and watch his Blood Glucose. He was a type 2 diabetic for about 15 years. He used every excuse in the book to continue his poor eating choices. Which led to an amputated toe, triple by-pass surgery and kidney dialysis. His wife nagged, cajoled, begged and prayed for him to take care of…

While I was in the ER, medical personnel asked me many questions about the meds I took for my maladies. One of these people was a hospitalist ( a doc who works at a hospital, but has no outside practice.) When discussing insulin, she said I would be put on a sliding scale. I said NO I WON"T, the sliding scale is out-dated and an old way of dosing insulin. She looked at me confused and said how do you dose your insulin ? I said I count my carbs and dose according to how much food I will be…

Some of you may know that I was in the hospital last week for a case of cellulitis. I came home on Friday and am recovering. As we all know, hospitals are not good places for diabetics. My husband took me to the ER ( which my PCP doctor said to do.) Suspecting that I would be admitted for treatment of IV antibiotics, I took along with me my meter and my insulin vial and syringe. In the ER they confirmed that I had cellulitis and, yes I would be admitted. I told every medical professional…

I just returned from a trip to California, primarily to visit with my daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. My husband and I try to get there at least 2 times a year.
