Suggested guidelines for starting a support group sucessfully.

What do you want out of the group? What do you want to avoid? How do you want the group to operate-no leader, rotating leaders? professional facilitators?,what guidelines for discussion are important to you? what are you willing to do to help the group function? There should be a limit set for the organizational discussion, at least half of the meeting should be devoted to discussing living with diabetes. AMIGO clarence.haynes@sympatico.ca

Hiya clarence! I just saw your profile and I have to say that you are an inspiration! I have been diabetic since I was 8 years old, diagnosed in 1996 so only 14 years and kind of still struggling to come to terms with it.

The work you're doing to help people is fantastic, keep it up

Happy New Year and may 2010 be a healthy, living with diabetes, follow the RULES, EVERYDAY,and alsoremember people WITH diabetes are a powerful resource for OTHERS living with diabetes. RESPECT and TRUST has been my guidelines from the day I met my wife and we have been married 63 wonderful years.I still chase the chicks but only now after I catch them, I pause and say WHAT IS MY NEXT MOVE? You know you have earned TRUST and RESPECT with the opposite sex is WHEN they make the first move by TOUCHING you, and under no circumstance betray that TRUST AND RESPECT AMIGO clarence.haynes@sympatico.ca

Hello Clarence

You have lead a very interesting life and the work you're doing is really something.

It's very easy to see you give it all in helping others w/ their diabetes.

When you say you're 90 yrs young from your picture you must keep in shape.

I'am 62 yrs young - you must tell me your secret Clarence.....is it a magic potion / lotion
or simply chasing all the ladies

Either way keep fit and watch those carbs.

As far as that modified lap blanket goes...I think that it would be better to have something like a giant bib with pockets on the bottom. Sometimes there are aprons with a number of pockets along the bottom edge. Let me think on it further. I'm going to purchase a sewing machine early next year...it should be simple to whip something up.
