Every parent will tell you that they are proud of their child. And they should. There is much to be proud of. Hello everyone!
I am Gayle, mom to Colin, my very courageous 4 year old Type 1 diabetic. Colin was diagnosed 11/11/2005 at the age of 2.
While I would give anything to make this all disappear for my little angel, I would not change a single thing about Colin in order to make that happen. He is sweet, loving and brave. I just wish I could add successfully potty trained to that list. Anyone know of any colleges with diaper changing services? Because I think we are headed in that direction...

Every parent will tell you that they are proud of their child. And they should. There is much to be proud of. I read the posts all the time from other moms about exemplary report cards, growth milestones, sports accomplishments... the list could go on and on.

Dear Colin,
It has been 4 years today, November 11th, since you were diagnosed with Type one Diabetes. I thought my life ended that day. I was afraid your life had ended that day. I was afraid you could never be a "normal" child. I remember thinking that you would never eat ice cream, play with your friends or enjoy life. A Promotion! Well, almost...

OK- so I am going crazy because I just about have a huge promotion at work. I say just about to because it seems to take an act of congress to get things signed off on in the corporate world. I mean my goodness- 6 freaking signatures to approve a promotion that they want me for! Stupid!
On a side note- I cant wait until it is cooler. The heat makes Colins blood sugars drop like crazy. He can go from 200 to 50 in 5 minutes lately! Oh the joys of a diabetic toddler...

Work was really stressful today.
Like the kind of day you want to walk up to your boss and tell him to do the job himself, you know?
And it's not his fault- he gets his orders too, but I am stressed.

Sami said… - I love your note to Colin for his four year anniversary. I was also diagnosed at the age of 2! My sister (who is 17 months older than me) was diagnosed at the same time. My mom thought we had the flu. Anyway... I just passed my 21 year anniversary and man how time flies. When we were young the movie "Steele Magnolias" was popular and bg machines took FOREVER to give you your sugar. But low and behold, the pump came along and the Continuous Glucose Monitor, and possibly an islet cell transplant. Last week my sister delivered a healthy baby girl too! I still have highs that come out of nowhere and lows that I cannot explain but it gets better everyday - or at least that's my optimism. By the time your son is my age, there could be a cure! or at least something really close. I wish the best for you and your family. Yay Colin for a caring mom and a great A1C!
