Courtlynn, sorry to hear those high numbers. Are you seeing an endo? Have you seen a CDE (certified diabetes educator)? they can really spend the time to teach you, and to study the patterns you are having. I've had it 42 years, and a couple of years ago I started having some really wacky numbers, and I went to a CDE and she really helped me. of course, you've only had this for a week, so don't be too hard on yourself, but the 400s can be scary, not to mention, make you feel like total crap. I think it's a good idea to test a lot, and write everything down. please don't think of your numbers like a grade on how good a person you are. If you see a high number, say to yourself, "wow, I'm glad I caught that now instead of later", give yourself a correction, and continue on. I'm here just about every day if you need to talk. there are a lot of nice ppl in the NW group.

Welcome to tudiabetes courtlynn. I see you found our NW group. Used to live down your way myself, but now I live in Washington. As such a newbie to all of this, I'm glad you found a great place to ask questions of others who have btdt.

okay, so it sounds like you're on the exchange diet. are you getting good numbers with that? It's very hard, balancing the food, insulin, and exercise, I know! then when you throw in stress, sleep, hormones.....everything affects it.

who, by the way, is an excellent friend to add - she also won the award here last year for best diet/eating coach. (we have these awards once a year, it's totally based on votes from members of the community). What kind of diet do they have you on? do you count carbs and take shots based on your current blood sugar and what you plan to eat? that's called MDI, or multiple daily injections. you can also work out a diet with a RD, Registered Dietician.

if I want a snack that doesn't raise it too much, I'll have some cheese, or cold cuts rolled in a lettuce leaf, or some pickle-y things that are low carb, like antipasto. hard-boiled eggs, green salads, nuts.

How are your blood sugars lately?
