Wow. That spreadsheet puts mine to SHAME. I thought I had a good one going, but that is amazing! Color coded too! I might give this one a try before my next endo visit - and I can see how you managed to get an A1c at 6.0, great numbers! Question t...

To infinity and beyond (Buzz Lightyear)

I was knocking around Borders this weekend (common American bookstore for those of you abroad) and they had an oversize photo book celebrating 50 years of mankind in space. They were some really amazing photos. Some because of the machines and the places they were taken, but others because of the men. I got a chuckle out of two opposing pics. On the left were the "new nine" astronauts in full test suits with helmets on a lake bed next to a test aircraft. On the right page the same astronauts, fa… Continue

So excited about my latest A1C!

Doctor appointment was Wednesday, and I've never been happier leaving the visit. I set a new record low for my A1C test of 6.0!

:-D

For many years, my A1C's have always been around 7.0, usually a little below, a couple @ 7.1s, previous record of 6.5. What did I start doing differently to pull this off? I read a book titled "

Excel glucose tracking

I've always liked lifescan meters as a meter, but I felt their software left a lot to be desired. For many years, I have used excel to make a paper template for manual logging of my results (see the sheet named manual). A few months ago I tried logging directly into excel a few different ways, but eventually went back to almost exactly how I did it on paper. Now with the data in excel you can get some nice analysis, trending, graphs, etc.

If you're unhappy with your meter software, wou

Hi Craig...how's it all going? I am happy that you are reading this and that you are a member of the growing TuDiabetes family.
Since the community was formed back in early 2007, lots of things have changed. Also since then, lots of new members have joined: we're now nearly 11,300 members. So, new members and new features means it never hurts to refresh how things work around the community.

If you haven't read it, I invite you to take a few minutes to go through our New Member Guide. If you have been a member for a while but have let a little dust accumulate on your TuDiabetes account, you will find it very useful. If you joined just recently, you will find it EVEN MORE handy.

If you don't find answers to a question you may have, never hesitate to ask. Click on the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page and one of the members of our Admin team (you can see their faces on the bottom right side of any page) will get back to you shortly.

Hi Craig, thanks for the note. :) I haven't been able to use the pump from the RJ store yet, since she didn't manage to dig out the supplies from the mess in her garage storage, but I hope to soon. Really hoping. Thanks for the kind words. The post I just wrote (on my blog ) was not really optimistic, but I guess that's life. :)

Welcome, friend! I love sailing on my beloved Lake Michigan. I have such fond memories of Lake M. and sailboating. Now that I'm in Taiwan, living on an island, it's amazing how little I see the sea, and how much I miss that lake! :)

I would not say diet change was that drastic. I did start eating a no carb salad meal once a week, also quantities (see below). I compared the first month of my meticulous records to the most recent and found the following: There were more low readings which I think will always be the case with tighter control. If I use a hypo level of less than 60, there were 25% more (13 versus 16). But there were also fewer hyper readings. Using a level of 200, there were 25% less (33 versus 25).

Things I've done for a long time:
#1) Test 7-8 times a day
#2) Stay active and exercise (easier in the summer)
#3) Good record keeping to spot trends, choose and change dosages. I used to do this about for about 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off.

Things I changed in the last 4 months, where A1c changed from 6.9 to 6.0:
#4) Read a book "Glycemic Index Revolution". The biggest single thing I got out of that was knowing which foods had high GI's and being more careful about the quantities of those in meals. Several other good things I learned about food I did not know.
#5) Small adjustments! (for lows) I'll correct a low with a handful of raisins, or 1-2 bites of a granola bar. Not the box of minute maid juice I formerly used (too much with 20g carbs)
#6) Small adjustments! (for highs) If my reading 2 hours post meal is not within range, I'll take 1-2 more units.
#7) Meticulous record (keeping every week, no breaks). See my post on Excel Glucose Tracking.
