Anyone switch CGMS "brands"?

I had this lost reception issue once (coincidentally, my OmniPod had a kink in the cannula and was leaking insulin. I woke up in the middle of the night, threw up, tested, and was at 361). I had my...

I did a MM trial with my doctor's office and hated it. Needle/sensor hurt like hell going in and coming out, plus they had to put a giant shower patch over it so it wouldn't get knocked off or get ...

Soaking wet Dexcom receiver

Yup. A friend of mine did the same thing (with her cell though, not CGM) and phone worked just fine.

If you have the Ping and the integration does happen with the 2020, Animas has a trade-in program (per my rep).

Ditto Melissa. I'm also on the OmniPod, and unless I'm wearing it on my arm (where it would either stick out from tight sleeves or be visible with short sleeves), I've had no problems concealing it when I wear it on my tummy or lower back. I have...

I went to Costco and bought a giant box of Welch's fruit snacks. Each bag has 29 grams of carbs, good for treating lows (eat half if you're not that low). I usually stuff a bunch in my purse, have some on my nightstand, have some at work, etc. Wor...

Hello-
We started a new Pennsylvania specific group (http://tudiabetes.com/group/pennsylvaniadiabetics)

And- I was thinking that eventually we should have a philly meet up for all us at TuD.
Maybe Bowling for Blood Sugars? Get together, socialize, test, and try to see who can most closely match blood sugar value with bowling score. Winner gets... something to be determined.

Happy Wednesday, guys- I hope your sugars behave today.

Hi Faye, hows everything with you? I hope you're doing well with the diabetes. Ijust joined yesterday and that was the first time i heard of the pod. I think we're way behind here in Ireland. Im using the pens and i know a few people here who still have to carry the bottles of needles and the big old syringes.

Hi Faye, Yes I bet it was hard going back east after getig married in Newport. I have been to one weeding (on a boat) in Newport and thought it was truly amazing. My sister lived in that area for 20 years so it's like a second home to me.

Hey, in your last picture.... your husband is wearing a pod? I am assuming he has type 1 diabetes as well?

Hi Faye thanks for your comment....when you spoke with them were you speaking as an HMO or PPO/POS client?

I'm wondering if bc I'm on the HMO they say no bc Dexcom is "out of network" and MM bc they have a contract are "in network"

But if there is any way I can get my Dex covered I'd be so happy...I'm not particularly excited about MM's CGMS and I LOVE my Dex.

CMGS insurance update

I was finally able to call Keystone this afternoon and get a good, solid answer on a CGMS (or rather, as solid as I could get over the phone). The first gal I spoke to was a little confusing; she kept saying that she could check the system to see if the supplier was covered. She mentioned that if they were in the Philly area, it was more likely that they would be covered under my plan. Well, that didn't make any sense to me, so I asked her to clarify. Turns out she was talking about third-party… Continue

an update on life (totally rambling here)

About 7 months ago, my husband (then fiance), Chris, and I packed our bags and moved clear across the country from Orange County, CA, to Philadelphia, PA. He started pharmacy school this past fall.

Moving here has been a challenge, to say the least. We live in a 320-square-foot studio (temporarily, for a year), and it's basically a glorified dorm room. I'm talkin' mini-fridge, two-burner stove, no oven, tiny sink with no garbage disposal, etc. It's been especially a challenge for me because I L… Continue

from saline to insulin

I gave myself my last injection this morning. Had I remembered, I would have done a little dance...or a funeral procession. Hopefully the OmniPod works for me in the long run, but based on my blood sugar readings from today, I'm hopeful.

I did a pod change over the weekend (saline), and surprisingly, it didn't take me too long. It took about 3 minutes (this was while doing a "demo" for my mom and boyfriend). My squeamish-around-needles boyfriend heard the click of the needle retracting and near… Continue

OmniPod & saline

I finally received my shipment from OmniPod and had my pump training! As of 2pm PST today, I will have been on the saline-filled "real" pod for a full day. Setting everything up was surprisingly easy, but I can see why people are on saline for a week-- 1) you don't waste insulin, and 2) you don't kill yourself by overdosing on insulin! =P

I have to be honest though, I did NOT know what to expect when I slapped the real thing on the back of my arm. I started getting anxious because I didn't know… Continue

Prescription mix-up makes woman sick

by Kathryn Bursch
St. Petersburg, Florida – Greta Wiggins still feels horrible Friday afternoon after spending hours in the emergency room Thursday night.

“My head's been hurting and my body feels weak,” says Wiggins from her St. Petersburg home.

Wiggins, who has diabetes, suffered an insulin reaction and she blames that on the wrong kind of insulin and a CVS pharmacy.

On Tuesday, Wiggins picked up her usual prescription for a type of insulin called Humulin. She thought she took home two b
