I've had diabetes for just over a year. I'm the only one in my family who has it, so it came as a real shock when I was diagnosed. My wife and I did not recognize the symptoms, and I had ketoacidosis when I was admitted to the hospital. My blood sugar was 82 mmol/L (1476 mg/dL).
I stared with insulin pens and have been using the pump for 6 months now. The pump's just more convenient to use, but I still hate having to count the carbohydates I'm going to eat.
Nel, I actually ran in the amsterdam half-marathon in 2009, when I didn't have diabetes yet. I've started to run again, and it's been good so far.
Welcome garagumu from a gal , who lived in the Netherlands till 1963 , then moved to Canada . As a matter of fact I will be in A'dam around Oct. 20 participating with Team Diabetes Canada in the Amsterdam Marathon as a 8k walker/runner ...and living with diabetes since 1983 ...all the best and be well!
