gr78core replied to Siri's discussion 'How do I split my Lantus and why?' in the group LANTUS® Or Humalog Users
"I started split doses years ago. 8:00am and 8 pm. Early on I forgot the nite shot a few times and split has worked. There was a study years ago with a bulk Reg. insulin and found it takes hours to dissipate all the insulin. Similar principle with…"

gr78core replied to Sarah M's discussion 'Forgetting to take Lantus?' in the group LANTUS® Or Humalog Users
"The large dose is about 24 hrs. based on the time of absorption for the larger volume. Splitting the dose, will result in a shorter absorption time span and is the reason it works for those of us who forget the one bulk daily shot. I wondered why…"

gr78core replied to Sarah M's discussion 'Forgetting to take Lantus?' in the group LANTUS® Or Humalog Users
"I disagree. I see no magic expiration and change in effectiveness after 28 days. I don't refrigerate it and keep it in house ambient temperature. It actually lasts much longer for me. Where does this statement originate. Some folks are…"

gr78core replied to Michael Hutch's discussion 'Be prepared for severe hypos with a spare 'glucagon' injection/shot.'
"I have had Glucagon administered by EMS. I hate it and my wife knows to tell them to use an IV instead, on those rare occasions. I react with nausea and headaches for 24 hrs. Reconstituted orange juice is also bad for nausea. I keep honey packs,…"

gr78core replied to Stuart's discussion 'Yes or No: cured in your lifetime?'
"I heard a test case with the continuous meter and insulin pump (that worked), then canned because there was no market for it. I do think the smaller <10% are Type 1 and a cure, if found, would impact their revenue less and might come to us. Type…"

gr78core replied to Stuart's discussion 'Yes or No... cured in your lifetime?'
"I had a Metabolic Scientist friend that says if it is discovered, it won't be supressed. The gold standard for any scientist is a cure and the royalties will be tremendous. It likely won't happen, because the funds from research and fund…"

"I was 29 when diagnosed and T1 was not common at that age. The doctor tried pills at first before switching to NPH only. I was building a house and that worked pretty well."

"One thing I have done is split the Lantus doses. The principle of one shot is basicly the mass takes from 20-22 hours to absorb into your bloodstream. I forgot a few times and have done better with the split, 8:00PM and 8:00AM. Dr. Berstein's…"

Just check out our groups at the top of your page (by clicking on Groups) and you will see what's there. They are probably others you are interested in. Just click on them and then it will take you to their opening page read a little about them and then if you are interested click join and now your a member of that group. After you do that you can leave a comment to the group and there you will meet others in that group who have the same concerns as you.

I now have 2 girls one 21 and the other 20. AND I just turned 47!!! You will find all type of Type 1's here and some who took it as far back as in the 50's! I really look up to those out there who have had Type 1 longer than me, without them I might not be here now!
