What I wouldn't change

Posted on July 16, 2007 at 11:26am 2 Comments

My kids and I often talk about what we will do differently when there is a cure but today I’ve been thinking a lot about what I won’t do differently. I would never have wished for this disease to become such a consuming part of our lives but in so many ways it’s made me a better person. Here are just a few of the many things I would not change:

I wouldn’t stop assuming there is probably more to the story when I see a kid acting up in public. (My daughter gets very… Continue

Aidan's Story from Beat the Bridge 07

Diabetes became an everyday part of Aidan's life

when he was only 20 months. That was when Sain was first diagnosed. Six months

diagnosis, his little pancreas has always…

Sain's Story in Sain's words

When I was 5 I went to Children’s Hospital for the

first time and found out I have type 1 diabetes. Now I have to have 4 shots a

day and poke my fingers 10 times a day just to make sure I am okay. I can do my

pokes and shots on my own now but I don’t want to. I want to be normal and

diabetes makes me feel like…

Dear Friends and Family

You look at your child and you see the future; long and full of adventure. You see hope and potential, endless possibility and greatness. I see all those in mine but I look at my daughter and I know what will kill her. I know that without a cure this disease will

take her from me and that there is a distinct chance I will have to bury my own

child. I know she will battle the…

“Still, there are definitive moments, moments we

use as reference, because they break our sense of continuity, they change the

direction of time. We can look at these events and we can say that after them

things were never the same again.” from The Robber Bride, by Margaret Atwood

My life has been full of definitive moments but none more so than Monday, 04

April 2005 in the emergency room of…
