Everyone's Got Their Dragon to Fight in Life

Everyone’s got their Dragon to fight in Life
Diabetes is mine.

I don’t like feeling limited. ( i promise this get's better keep reading)
I don’t like feeling weak.
I don’t like the hassle
I don’t like people’s ignorant comments and opinions about my disease.
I feel embarrassed when my BG is low and I can’t function.
I don’t like missing work even if my coworkers understand.
I don’t like it when people’s first question is “how is your health”… like I’m the sickly friend.
I don’t li… Continue

Wrist Ink-

Papua New Guinea women always grabbed my arms to look at my tattoos. Most of them have tattoos and we have fun comparing and complimenting each other’s ink.
They tell me they use razors or needles to cut their skin, rub charcoal into it, and let it heal. They generally tattoo their nam… Continue

Diagnosed in a third world country... (cringe)!

My parents are missionaries and we were in Indonesia when i was diagnosed with diabetes. Indonesia is a pile of islands just north of Australia)
I was 11 years old and my mom looked up my symptoms in a book called "Where there is no Doctor". We were out in the jungle about 15 mil… Continue

A very adventurous job you have ! Do you get paid for this ? ;-)
It must be amazing and so enriching to live among other cultures. I believe it puts a lot of things in life in another perspective... your blog story when you were 11 is one example...
The travel thing... well, before I had D I used to travel now and then for my job. I travelled within Europe, but also to Canada and the States. But since I have D, I feel very nervous when I have to travel. I feel less strong and vulnerable and I am very scared something happens to me, being alone without my family. At home I feel more secure as I am in a known environment with my close relatives. My BS is sometimes a rollercoaster and being in another country means different food and different things you do, which of course doesn't help to keep my BS within reasonable limits... I guess I am less advonturous than you... but I would like to work on it, to overcome this "fear". May be you can give me some good tips...
I read in some discussions you had also some health issues lateley... did you finally find the problem ?
Another interested thing is your change from shots to pump... I know there is a lot of information about this topic on this site, and I will do some reading... what's your experience ? Better control of the BS ? Easier ?
Anyway, thanks for sharing until now... I really appreciate...
Cheers from Belgium... we are all catholic around here, so nobody left to persuade, but always welcome anyway...

What is this "missionary" thing ? Here in Belgium, a missionary is a priest. You definitely not look like a priest :-).
What do you do actually... just asking, because it looks very interesting. Do you go to third world countries to run some projects ?
All the things you do, having D, is amazing. Sometimes this D makes me uncomfortable when I have to travel for my job... how do you manage, with the traveling ? The toughts of a hypo makes me nervous, while traveling...
BTW, I added a photo from a motortrip I did in 2002... I remember those days when I looked at your pictures ;-) ... good days...
Cheers, Nicolas.
