This Just In - 6.0

Posted on April 28, 2008 at 12:12pm 4 Comments

I have had this Dexcom for 9 months now...and he sure does like me. Since getting him my A1C's have been 6.0, 6.1 and 6.0---- prior to Dex I ran btw 7.0 and 7.3 very consistently.

I am convinced that never staying high for more than an hour or 2 (of course there is the occasional all night long at 200), and my ability to target 100 durning the night without suffering severe lows has contributed to my success.

I also know that i have changed my habits greatly since Dex… Continue

2nd A1C after Dexcom - 6.1

Posted on December 21, 2007 at 10:31am 3 Comments

I just got my 2nd A1C back---been on Dexcom since June 2007---first was 6.0 but I battled alot of super lows from too much over correcting. Watching my BS rise was initally freaking me out.

Got the 2nd one back today---and I came in at 6.1.

I'm very happy with this...and it seems the Dexcom is worth the cost. Insurance battle is ongoing.

CGM Sales Pitch

January 2007 – A1C – 7.3

March 2007 – A1C = 7.3

June 2007 – after buckling down and paying close attention to what I eat, when I eat, carb ratios etc – 6.6

Shortly after this one – I got my cgm

Sept 2007 – 6.0

6.0---I can hardly believe that---I was only this low one other time but was a paranoid freak -…

Dexcom CGM vs Meter reads - getting back in sync

Posted on September 5, 2007 at 7:34am 1 Comment

For the most part, my Dex 3 has been right on with cgm and meter reads...but occasionally i get some sync issues.

I got a tip yesterday from Dexcom technical support...regarding Dex saying 190 and meter saying 120. Tech Support said and claims to have had some success with the following 'fix'

When this is discovered...upload your meter read to Dex....15 minutes later take another meter read and upload again. Within 30 minutes the Dex algorithm should get back in sync and be…

Welcome to the World of Diabetes

Posted on August 14, 2007 at 3:09pm 15 Comments

Well Crap - my brother, age 33, just called me from the ER. He was feeling bad at work(he works at a hospital) and asked a nurse to check his BS...it read HI on the meter...so they sent him to the ER - 1 hour later he got the news--Welcome to the World of Diabetes.

BS 686 and A1c = 11.0. They juiced him up with 10 units of insulin and an hour later his BS was 228 - I said, well at least you will get your first low out of the way while you are in the ER, get ready - 1 hour later he was…

I just wanted to know what you thought about Aetna and the pump/cgms. I just had my doctor send off everything today. I don’t hear too many good things about cgms. How have things come out with you? Thanks for your help.

Eillom--remember when we used to do that? I did get your message--thanks for the kind words. I am going to the reunion--it seems weird to think of it being 20 years and that we are almost 40...where have the years gone? I will write you when I have more time and catch you up on the last 20 years or so--hope all is well with you and Eric--sounds like you have an awesome family--thanks for sharing

Hi Mollie

I'm interested in your status w/ Aetna PPO. Are they not providing you with any "refills" for the sensor? I am in the process of submitting my 2nd Level Appeal with them. Thanks to your advice I am going to add 2 months worth of bG numbers both on and off the CGM.

Thanks again Mollie,

Your insight is so helpful. I truly appreciate it. I am also going to look into those glucose tablets......I can't continue to wake up with these lows and eat at 12am and then 3am. The doc just switched me to lantus and I think my body is moch more sensitive to this than the Levemir I was on. I called him today and he changed me from 75 units to 50 units so hopefully that will help.

I guess the frustating thing about the weight is that I have maintained the same weight since my 20's now I have gained 10 pounds....so I just worry. I just want my quality of life to be better and it's hard with all these new changes and adjustments to make.
Thanks again, you are a blessing.

Angela
