"Your joking about carbs being the only food source that will increase BG...???Try a 16oz rib-eye steak and see what happens to your BG for the next 8-12 hrs."

"No food lowers blood sugar that I know of. However carbs are the only macronutrient that increases them. So eat low carb, less than 50g per day, and cure your diabetes."

"Waddya mean, yuck for asparagus?! Asparagus is yummy! Especially stir-fried with pork and chilies. Though it's good just with mayonnaise. Or hollandaise. Or grilled and sprinkled with a little salt and shaved dry Monterrey jack, which sounds a…"

"True and true. I didn't state my point very well. I was just arguing that a "slower rise" isn't a "lowering". But if you're talking about average BG, e.g., an A1c reading, then yes, that could be the net effect."

Brian (bsc) replied to jeanettephx's discussion 'Okra for reducing blood sugars.'
"Actually a slower rise can lead to a lowering of average blood sugar. Many T2s still have insulin production but they have a poor phase I response. A slower blood sugar rise can be better handled by the sluggish phase II response. This is the reason…"

"Full disclosure: I like okra very much. Gumbo, etc. However, it won't lower blood sugar and the article doesn't say that it will. What it does say is that it can slow down a rise in blood sugar that's going to happen anyway. A slower…"

Hello! Thank you for having me as a friend Jeanette :)
I'm in Canada...in the southwestern part of the province of Ontario...a city named Kitchener-Waterloo (2 cities joined together). I'm a wife of 34 years (hubby is also diabetic), mom to two grown children (one 29, the other 27), a grandma to 4 lovable little boys, a teacher, and before that an illustrator (still do some) and graphic designer....I speak French fluently, I read, history fascinates me, I paint, sing, walk, garden, ski, ride my bike....did I mention "read"? I love having friends over, I bake/cook, am an eclectic music lover, an animal lover...the ocean...ah the ocean...it speaks to me! Oh...and I have diabetes (and a few other things).
Nice to have you as a friend!!! Tell me a bit about yourself and keep in touch, ok?
hugs....linda
