Hi - I have a child that is 1 year old and I am a type 1 Diabetic. How did you realize something was wrong that you tested him or did he get sick and go to a hospital. I'm scared my daughter will get it.

Hi Jellyman.

I'm sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis. I am glad you found TuDiabetes.

My son, Caleb, is currently 7. He was diagnosed at the age of 3. I remember very well those first few weeks and all the emotions when it was all so raw.

The one thing that gave me comfort, the only thing at that time, was hearing stories of adults who were diagnosed as children and grew up to lead very normal, very fulfilling, very successful lives. I remember distinctly a friend telling me about her friends and their daughter who had been diagnosed as a child and at was now grown up and taking part in an exchange program. To think that Caleb could be an exchange student living in another country gave me comfort and perspective. Though it didn't heal the pain of dealing with a new diagnosis. It at least gave me hope.

I hope the many people here share their stories - I see Bradford peeking at me from the right - he's a wonderful inspiration as are all the Team Type 1 members, and countless other people here.

Again welcome. Ask any questions you have.
