Have you googled the following:

Paleo diet

Neo diet

Dr Bernstein?

Note: Paleo diet is what our bodies are designed to eat (healthy)
Neo diet is what we eat today (unhealthy)

Just a thought...

Hi Jen, Glad to hear of your success with a raw vegan diet! I have been a veg for 20 years and a vegan for 6. I see you are in Oak Park. I am very close to you in Chicago. I lived in Oak Park for six years and I love it there! Hoping to move back there some day! I shop at the River Forest Whole Foods! :)

The part of advocacy is of interest. I don't know about you, but I'm impatient with how slowly the economic side of healthcare is going. This country treats its sick like vermin. Anyway, I do art to cope. Check out my profile.

Hi Jen,

Thanks for your comment-- and for reading my blog (sometimes I wonder if anyone reads my ramblings :) ...)

I can only begin to imagine the feelings that you had as a 12 year-old trying to figure out what was going on.

The reason that I think of my diabetes like a relationship (strong friendship, marriage, parental relationship, etc) is not because I'm positive about it ALL the time, but because it is always there and just like other relationships, I can get frustrated some days.... have reasons to celebrate others.

But I think that the best thing for my diabetes control was giving up the "fight" against diabetes.

I'm glad you are here .... it's SO much better not to be alone!!

Hey Jen, I live in Chicago too. I'm MDI but if you want to meet another diabetic in person, we could probably arrange it. There are other Chicagoan diabetics on tudiabetes too.
