This disease, I was told, skips a generation. In my families case -my grandmother had it, then her daughter, my mom, had it and now me. So much for skipping a generation. But since this disease is at epidemic proportions, I really feel that a cure is out there someday. When I was very young my father was the 11th man in the world to have open-heart surgery. His heart was stopped for about 34 minutes during his surgery. He unfortunately did not survive for a second surgery which he needed. Today, they do heart transplants and he would have been a candiate for a heart. Science in medicine has come a long way. I'm a very hopeful person.

Hello Joanie,
Merry Christmas! Glendale CA is a lovely place to live. I am here for any help I can offer with the low carb diet. It has really helped me lower and keep my BS low. I too have Diabetes rampant in my family. I guess it has given me strength to battle this rather than allow it to consume me. You have a wonderful outlook!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
