I keep two different summaries of the status of clinical trials aimed at curing type-1 diabetes, and I've just updated both of them.  So if you want a summary of the whole field, you might try…Continue

Just posted my yearly summary of JDRF funding for clinical trials aimed at curing type-1 diabetes.

You can read the posting here: http://cureresearch4type1diabetes.blogspot.com/2012/09/jdrf-funding-for-cure-2012.html I think it is a good summary of where we are. It also shows how much of the current work is being funded by JDRF, and how much is not. It lists all 38 clinical trials currently underway. If you are interested in details for any one of them, you can look at my…See More

Low Carb Recipe Swap

Eating low carb does not have to be a bland, nasty experience.  For those of us who use the low carb option to help control our blood sugar, the quest for new low carb recipes is an ongoing challenge.  This is a place where we can talk about cooking techniques, post recipes,  and add ideas to benefit all of us on this journey.Welcome!See More

I keep two different summaries of the status of clinical trials aimed at curing type-1 diabetes, and I've just updated both of them.  So if you want a summary of the whole field, you might try looking at one or both of these. I use both of these files to update my blog "Current Research into a Cure for Type-1 Diabetes' which you can read here:  http://cureresearch4type1diabetes.blogspot.com.  In this blog I focus entirely on research…See More

Orban's Phase-I Results

I'm a little embarrassed that it has taken me so long to blog about Dr. Orban's results.  They were announced almost a year ago.Data from Orban's Phase-I TrialThis research is a vaccine-like attempt to teach the body's immune system to stop attacking it's own beta cells.  A molecule (insulin B chain) similar to insulin was given along with IFA (an adjuvant, a chemical that makes the immune system react more strongly to a vaccine) to try to train the immune system not to attack beta cells.  This…See More

Possible Cures for Type-1 in the News (late April)

Alefacept Starts a phase-II Clinical TrialThis study is also called "T1DAL", which I'm sure is pronounced "tidal".This drug targets the immune system's T cells, and is already approved for treating "plaque psoriasis" which is an autoimmune disease similar to type-1 diabetes. It has a good safety profile there. The hope is that by giving it to honeymoon type-1 diabetics, beta cells will be preserved.Because this is an ITN trial, there is a long list of sites where you can participate. For the…See More

Possible Cures for Type-1 in the News (March)

The first two lines of research discussed below involve treating inflammation, so here is a quick introduction to treating inflammation as a cure for type-1 diabetes: Everyone knows that type-1 diabetics have a lot of inflammation in their pancreas and especially around their beta cells. Most researchers believe that inflammation is a result of the body's immune attack on it's own cells. That is, the underlying immune problem causes inflammation and also causes beta cells to die (which causes…See More

Our founder, Manny Hernandez, last year reported from Miami at a conference he went to at the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI). His reports of what they are doing there were amazing! Ever since, I and my family have been supporting them. Check them out, also Dr. Faustman's work is showing promise. Many of us are weary, as they've been telling us a cure is right around the corner for years. Glad to know we're famous. I've had it 43 years and my past 3 years here have changed everything for the better for me.
