Easier to be diagnosed young or older???

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 11:12am 14 Comments

So, I read the blogs about having a Diabetes free day and the comments stirred another burning question I have..What is easier?? Being a T1 as a child or living more than 1/2 a life and then becoming a T1. I was recently diagnosed at 45 and I miss my old life. Everyone says you can do everything and eat everything just the same BUT it is not true!! I used to spend hours at the beach swimming, reading, relaxing, drinking pina coladas etc....Now, I am lucky to get an hour…

How do you count salad???????

Posted on January 9, 2012 at 8:56pm 4 Comments

I used to eat a lot of salad, especially for lunch. Since entering the world of Diabetes, I really don't eat it. Well, I have a small salad at dinner. I only use balsalmic vinegar on my salad. But, I would put tomatoes, green peppers, onions (red of course), cucumbers and carrots, sunflower seeds and feta cheese. So, now, I have no idea what the carb content would be. Do I need to count each individual veggie? I do eat chicken taco salads and carb it at 52gms which seems to work BUT that is…

Doxycycline and hypoglycemia

Posted on December 15, 2011 at 12:46pm 9 Comments

So, out of the blue, the rash I have on my leg is not a rash but a staph infection. I guess I got it from shaving. Anyhow, the doctor started me on Doxycycline and Bactroban dressing changes three times a day. The pharmacist told me that antibiotics cause hypoglycemia..Does anyone have any info or tips on this?? My sugars thus far have been doing great..

Thank you everyone...This is probably been the biggest roller coaster of my life and I guess I am never getting off. I guess I just want to know how do you ever keep up?? Does it really get easier and become so routine that there isn't constant worry.... I finally felt like I nailed the diet and now my night time sugars started dropping...So, no sleep again....I just set my alarm through the night now...I am getting a pump Oct 24 and everyone tells me there is an alarm that will sound if you get hypo at night...I am just tired of being tired, worried and scared....Again, I thank everyone and will use this site to gain more knowledge..P>S..No more jujube's for jujube
