My resolution ends up being gastric bypass surgery, which should eliminate my need for insulin entirely. Part of the financial decision was based on the fact that for the past two years, the cost of the U-500 has doubled each year. With many calls, to many people, I found that there is no oversight on prescription pricing. They can raise the price as often as they would like, to what ever price they choose, as often as they want. The only good news that I can tell you is that the E. Lilly company will give you one sample bottle a year. Even my attempts to find out why there have been such drastic price increases, was met with the response, "we don't set the price you pay. You will have to check with your pharmacist." That must be their set deflection, because I receive the same exact wording from numerous people. It is ridiculous that any pharmacist would know why the price of production would increase for their corporation. So I never got an answer on then that either. My next step would have been letters to my congressmen, senators, and possibly even go to TV shows that help intercede or expose injust or deceptive marketing. Several local news stations locally do segments like that.
