lotsofshots commented on Kathy's photoHi, I'm Kathy. I also go by Minnesota Nice over on the OC.
I have had diabetes for 38 years and not always taken good care of myself. Things have gotten better, though, and in spite of some complications, I consider myself to be in reasonable health. I also feel that it's never too late for improved control.
I deal with disordered eating issues daily.
I began blogging on the OC about 5 years ago and it has been immensely helpful - sharing victories, defeats and plain ordinary living with other pwd's has been a gift.
So far, I've enjoyed Tu Diabetes and love just stopping by for a second to comment on a discussion.
In October of 2010 I had surgery for ovarian cancer. During the recovery period I suffered two cardiac arrests and went into life-threatening respiratory failure. My family was called to my bedside 3 different times, to say goodbye. Shortly after that I went into acute renal failure, and started dialysis October 2010. At that point no one knew whether I'd ever get out of a wheelchair or off of supplemental oxygen. I was determined to make the most of the time I had left and began a structured exercise program. On January 12, 2012, my nephrologist called me and said my labs had improved to such an extent that I could stop dialysis. I am still basking in the light of this miracle. It was a big compliment to have so many TD members share in the joy of this healing!

Ever since I got off dialysis, I've had to have a full set of kidney labs done every three months. I get very anxious waiting for the results.
A week ago last Friday, I went to the lab and had blood drawn early in the morning, and then went about my day. Some old college friends were going to pick me up in the evening, drive to a huge lake in northern Minnesota, and rent a houseboat for two nights. We've done this before and it's a lot of fun (although I am not in charge of…

Well, it's a little early for Santa, but even better - Judith from Portland!
I met Judith during the early days of TD, when it was less than 500 members, but it didn't work out logistically to meet until last year.
As they say in the midwest, "we had a nice visit". Talked of many things.
Judith has spent several months recovering from knee surgery and looked fabulous.
She is such a loving and gracious lady, and it is a deep pleasure for me to know someone that I felt…

What a fun afternoon I had! Had lunch with Molly and her supernatural, out-of-this-world service dog, Dixie.
Molly is a special ed teacher and outdoor enthusiast and lives just across the border in Wisconsin. We had been intending to get together for some time, and it finally happened:
I got there a…

One of my friends grew up in Chicago and was a big Cubs fan. Ron Santo was her favorite. Here is a most interesting article on the efforts his wife is making, in his memory, to bring awareness re hypo-detecting service dogs:http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20110825/news/708259965/

You won't be surprised when I tell you that it's been hot in Minnesota.
I got home at 9 pm on the 18th, after being gone all day. Here's what was sitting in my non-airconditioned foyer:
Even though I stopped working 2 years ago due to major illness, I still get benefits from my former employer. This past…

Good Morning,Kathy. I had a good night. At 7 I was doing laundry. I paid a bill for $66 months ago. They must never have recorded it. They are torturing me. I gave them the bank the check number and it has been cashed. I love my new floors it makes all the difference in the wrld not seeing that green wall to wall. Russ likes the physical therapy. They use heating pads. He has exercises to do . They want him 2x a week/ He just said I am crippled maybe I cannot do them...it never ends. Poor Cat is having a tough time. I feel so sorry for her. How are things with you? did you go out yesterday? How is the fiddle playing going? TOPS tomorrow. Need to get the Agenda done. Take good care and have a good day. A BIG HUG, Reed
HELLO KATHY. TODAY was my collapse day and enjoy my house. I love the Library. I put in a medium sized Oriental makes it cozy. Hot here. Russ went for his medical massage and pt. Not a regular massage but heating pads. The guy said he hade very strong feet and legs..why am I having trouble walking? He is going to go 2x a week. I think with Russ it is a slow tolerance of pain. My knees could be killing me but not a peep out of me. Did you go out today? Going to watch Antiques Roadshow in a bit. Hope all is well with you. Take care. HUGS, Reed
Good Morning to you. Thanks for the pretty post card. The floors look great. Tom would not give up until every room was back to normal. Added Oriental rug to the Library. I have one big box left to unpack..all Library stuff photos and books. I am pleased Kathie as they did a good job and were very neat. I have to get used to them and not slip. In the midst of it all,Russ gas been coughing so at 3 he had to go to get a chest x-ray. Rained about 5 minutes. Leaving at 7:30 for the barbershop. We need haircuts. Anything planned for today? Take good care. HUGS,Reed
Hi Kathy, Did you get some sleep last night? Did you hear any news about the lady that is missing? I hope she is okay. Ugh, BG is 300 this morning. It makes me feel sick to my stomach. I did a correction but I think I am going to have to split my basal to two shots. I don't think my Lantus is lasting 24 hours. I hate doing that because then sometimes I forget to take the second shot and really mess myself up. I could take a bolus in the middle of the night, but then I would have to wake up . . . hmmm.
Kathy,
I think that Cat is the cutest guy ever. I was so madly in love with him, plus he is talented too. There is a documentary on You Tube about him. It tells all about from when he was born to when he turned to Yusuf Islam, and why he turned, and what he is doing now. I think he runs a Muslim school and has five kids.. He has grey hair and a long grey beard. I still like him even though he was on the "No fly list" which was silly if you ask me. I don't think he is a terrorist singing songs like "Peace Train" and " Morning has Broken.
When I went to Michigan State University, they had a river that went through campus and everyone hung out there between classes and laid in the sun. One day I was sitting in the grass and I looked over and saw this guy ride up on a ten speed bike and he was a dead ringer for Cat Stevens. He was gorgeous and had two hot brothers. He had black curly long hair and a beard and dark skin, his brother had curly red hair and light skin. His mom was a redhead and his dad was from Lebanon. He was really nice and I went out with him for a couple of years. He was a tennis player and had bought his own house really young. He was a pot smoker though and that broke us up because I didn't do that. His name was Randy. Those were the days! We had some good times together. He is one of my fond memories.
What you ate for dinner sounded great. Yum. We had barbed burgers and corn on the cob. It was awesome. Now I have ants in the kitchen! We are going to do some major nuking tomorrow and spray in the cupboards. Yikes.
That fairy herb garden you have is so charming. Last time I went to the hospital I went to the gift shop and there was this beautiful fairy statue for sale when I promised myself I would not buy anything else ever again. It was beautiful and half price only $15. I asked why so cheap because it was awesome and it was a night light but the cord was missing. I bought it. I could not help myself, and my son had a cord for it when I got home. His whole living area is full of wires and computer parts, he has so many computers. The newest one is a tablet. It is about as big as a book, totally flat, and you can do everything with it that you can do on a regular computer. The fairy has micro-filaments in the wings and on the rock she is sitting on. It is about 10 inches tall. It is so cool. The wings are green and the rock is orange and it throws off this great design on the wall and ceiling when the lights are out. I haven't turned her off since I brought her home.
I better get to sleep. I have to go to the lung doctor tomorrow. Why I don't know, because I can breathe fine now. I guess I need to have him tell me that!
Lots.
That's some contrast in the picture that the camera handled- I can see the clouds and the marquee.
Hello Kathy. My house looks just like Linda's photo. I have no lamps in here but one. Tom said he will unplugthe computer later. We three have worked hard packing things. I hope I remember where we put stuff. They told me it would take 2 full days. I do not know where they will start. Chico's Mother called and he is still having trouble with the eye. He does not like the pill so he runs and hides. 91 right now heat index 102 even hotter tomorrow. This house is central air so the workman will appreciate that. Have a good night. HUGS,Reed
