I've been a type 1 diabetic for a little under a month now. Luckily there's a lot of diabetes in the family and my older sister's had it since she was 9 so it doesn't feel all new and scary to me. :)…Continue
"Was in Bergen Norway for a whole summer in 1978 and had a great time. That was before I become diabetic in 1981, which is totally unrelated. My D came about from having a gold crown inserted next to an amalgam filling in another tooth and that…"
"When I say I have diabetes I often get stories about people that my conversation partner knows who are also diabetic...along the lines of "oooh, yeah my friend has that, she almost died..."(and then they go on and tell me all the horrific…"
"I'm one of many people (including several who already posted) who can relate to your story... I used to deal with lows just fine but then in October last year I took just one unit extra of bolus (because my blood sugar was on the high side and…"
"hi group :) I'm still in my "honeymoon" phase so I don't use much insulin for now but I admit that the thought of carb counting in the future scares me a little (so much to think about), so I thought I'd get used to the idea…"
Correct carb counting is very important. The members of this group can present pictures of their meals and the estimated carb counts. This way we can improve our judgement and learn to overcome common mistakes by sharing our experiences.
"I have many...a lot of it is classical music which I love.

"hi group...I've been lurking (and posting a little) on the site for a few months, but didn't see this group until now. my site: http://www.facebook.com/poperagurl (don't ask about the screenname, it's old ;) )"
Was in Bergen Norway for a whole summer in 1978 and had a great time. That was before I become diabetic in 1981, which is totally unrelated. My D came about from having a gold crown inserted next to an amalgam filling in another tooth and that causes more metals to get into the digestive system in microscopic particle sizes but enough to set off the autoimmune attacks. But I learned this 17 years later, so people are really on their own to discover what is the cause for their individual case. Especially dentists will deny it because that exposes them to lawsuits. But notice how the world is gaining more sense and metals are minimized or at least covered with porcelain so the chewing surface is covered. Many countries now discourage amalgams in favour of white composite. I wish you a life of staying ahead of the game in figuring out how to control the diabetes to avoid all potential negatives. It is possible.
Welcome! I know you are probably feeling really overwhelmed, but believe me, it will get better and it will become more manageable. I'm a member of the Care Team, but more importantly, I have lived with type 1 for nearly 45 years and completely understand what life with type 1 is all about. Send me a message at any time if you have a question...I would be more than happy to do whatever I can to help in whatever way possible. . . even if it's only to be a sounding board!
Have a great week!
