About my diabetic self

I'm old to diabetes (31 years this summer), but new to the blogging scene. Who knew there were other diabetics out there? Reading everyone else's trials, tribulations and stuff has comforted and inspired me, not to mention all of the great information that only fellow needers-of-insulin can provide.

Although I've had diabetes for as long as I care to remember, it's only recently that we have come to an agreement on living together.

LIVING with Diabetes Group I BLog

Posted on September 1, 2007 at 5:01pm 1 Comment

There's living with diabetes. There's living with DIABETES. There's living WITH diabetes. . . . . I suppose I could go on with the myriad possibilities I've been pondering in the last several months. It's fair to say that while diabetes and I have wrestled in the ring for 31 years, up until recently I've lived with diabetes.

Let me explain: I've come to believe that living, living well, as a person with diabetes requires a zen-ish outlook on life. While diabetes has been a part of my… Continue

66

Today would have been my mother's 66th birthday. I say "would have" because she died 3 years ago of ovarian cancer. In some ways it seems like yesterday. I'm sure those of you who have lost someone understand that feeling.

Mothers are funny things; funny-haha and funny-interesting. Who doesn't have a complex relationship with her mom? As an adult, I developed a great relationship with my mother which is not to say that she didn't drive me insane at times. Again, whose mother doesn't… Continue

Live from NY..It's Monday Night

Posted on July 7, 2007 at 8:59pm 1 Comment

Monday night I am in the city that doesn't sleep, not sleeping. This is my first travel with the pump. Thanks to Lea, I had an idea about how to prepare in terms of supplies. When I did manage to set off the security alarm, I took off every piece of jewelry, my belt -- I do have metal in my jaw from TMJ surgery, but what is a girl to do? In the end, it was, indeed, my pump. What an odd feeling as they took EVERYTHING out of my carry-on, opened my glucostrips and checked my lancet. These people… Continue

Hi,
I couldn't help but notice that you had TMJ surgery. I also have tmj, and it's driving me up the wall! Would you mind telling me a little about what they did for you and if/how it helped?
anything you can tell me would be brilliant!
thank you,
ish

Kimberly, thank you very much for telling me about tudiabetes.com last Friday. I joined today and am very impressed (but just a little overwhelmed) by all the features and information.

I'm very happy to know that you're wearing a pump and that it's working so well for you. You've found quicker and greater success with it than I have -- maybe this site will help me get my A1c below 7 before the year is over!

Hi!So far my experiences with Animas has been positive. They work with your budget.Thats one thing that minimed wouldn't do for us.I think they are making great strides.Tomorrow Animas will call me to set a delivery and payment. It almost feels too good to be true.
