numbness in toe

yesterday I noticed that it felt like I had something between my toes and thought it might have just been a loose thread on my sock. This morning I realized the feeling was still there so I checked it out. My toes look fine, no weird toe nail or anything between my toes. I did notice that one side of my 3rd toe is completely numb. My second toe can feel it, which gives me the feeling that there is something stuck between my toes.I made an appointment for next week with my endo, so hopefully I…See More

Baby is here!

Peyton Ann was born 2/6/13 at 6:00pm. She was 8 lbs 2 oz and 20" long.Throughout the pregnancy, my A1C's were consistently in the 5's and overall control was excellent. My perinatologist said I was his best patient. Insulin needs skyrocketed to 150-200 units a day via my Ping pump. I used a cgm too until I lost the transmitter (preggo brain??).I was scheduled for induction at 39 1/2 weeks based on my having Type 1 diabetes. The OB put in a cervical balloon last Tuesday afternoon for cervical…See More

About Me

My name is Katie, I'm 27 and have been living with diabetes since June 2002, when I was diagnosed at the age of 17. For the first few years after diagnosis, I did the best I could with what little info I had to manage such a chronic illness. College got the best of me and I wound up in ICU with DKA 4 times! Now, I am calming down a bit and want to live a long and happy life, so I've worked really hard to get a pump and stay on track. I just had my lowest A1C ever with a 5.7%. I am very grateful to the DOC and tudiabetes for being there to give me a place to share, vent, and feel that I am not alone in this fight.I just recently quit my job to go back to school for nursing. I hope to one day be a certified diabetes educator to help empower the lives of other patients living with diabetes.Other than that diabetes stuff, I enjoy working out, reading, cooking/baking, and spending time outside with friends. I also enjoy traveling, but that's on hold for a while until I graduate! Also, I am expecting my first child February 2013 and we are so excited!

My "coming out" story

Posted on October 2, 2011 at 4:02pm 7 Comments

So, I've had T1 for over 9 years. I've never been very open about it, largely because I was unwilling to accept it myself. About a year ago, I decided that this was going to catch up with me and my health sooner or later and I decided to take better care of myself. Six months ago, I got a pump, which was a huge step for me, considering that it is the first time I've ever had a real visible marker of my invisible disease.

After I got my pump, I've always kept it clipped to my belt.… Continue
