I am 26 years old. Been A Type 1 Diabetic since Feb 1995, I Cant exactly remember the day, Started on the Minimed 508 Insulin Pump in Febuary 2002.. I am now on the Minimed 522 Pump

I was in a speech class in college and and I had to write a speech about hurtful name calling and the impact it had on me and Id would like to share what I wrote because it seems people like us are a easy target because of our disablites, illnesses, etc

So Far So Good

so far I like it. I been hooked up to it since around 5:45. I think I will like the reminder to check my blood glucose 2 hours after I eat. may waste more test strips but it is well worth it

IT'S HERE... IT'S HERE ..... YAY


My pump has arrived and boy am I scared and nervous. it seems more and more to get used to and besides a new meter that sends the test results to the pump. oh gee. Maybe I felt like this 5 years ago when I first went on the Minimed 508 pump but some how I dont think it had this much stuff to learn. My CDE told me to put in the batteries , push the buttons and watch the dvd before I meet her on friday ( at all places

Since I last I updated I changed my habits. I started testing more then 2 times a day, and havent had that many high reading ( just a few because of dumb things I did). AND NOW TO THE GREAT NEWS . My new pump should be here on July 10th. WoooooHooo. My nice family doc signed the perscription for it because my now ex endo didnt

Testing Sugars

I been doing ok testing today. Maybe 4 or 5 times. Not great results mostly in the 180's and 200's and one readings in the 60's, But im geeting there. good things to come?

I get being sick of D. I get sick of it on my son's behalf. But it only gets worse if you ignore it, KWIM? Maybe some of your discouragement comes from high numbers that could be changed if you tested more frequently. I would recommend testing at LEAST two more times each day, and correcting from those numerbs. You will probably feel much better and shave some points off of your next a1c. Try it, Laura!

Just thought I'd suggest that you check out (if you haven't) the forum section. You can find a few nice topics going on in there. In one of them (under the section for pumpers), you can share your experience with the pump.
