"journey of a diabetic" by Lawrence Pray. an obscure book, maybe 20 years old. it is more about the life of a diabetic rather than the ins and outs. it is a great book if you can find it...

my diagnosis was rocky, and my c-peptide test was negative... i assume it still is. there has been some talk of adding c-peptide to some of the synthetic insulins, but the manufacturers do not want to go through the fda again. (i understand the pu...

who i am outside of diabetes

it is important to understand how to make all of this work... but my approach has always been to allow life to happen and adjust to that, rather then the method that i have seen so often... make all of life adjust to my condition.
so anyway, i am a father of 4 and love my children to no end. they are 18, 15, 12 and 8 years old. i am an traditional irish music freak, and have been involved in hosting/organizing a few festivals. i have spent quite a bit of my life working in and running restaurants and cafes, though i have also taught american history, and i have even written a home schooling curriculum for history. i am currently setting up my stained glass shop here in plymouth. i have not done much glass work in the last year, but i enjoy it immensely, i have been doing it for about 20 years now... still trying to grow up, unsuccessfully.

Hey I saw your comment re db books about Barbara and June - they were absolutely the best, and the original carb counters. For a couple of years I had sort of a penpal relationship with them and we'd write back and forth. I had always hoped that we'd meet, but never came to be. One time on Amazon I saw their most recent book was The Stroke Book, so I guess one of them had a stroke, but that was a few years ago. I have googled them and essentially came up with nothing except book references.
I remember when June became a "Regular Girl" and started taking MDI's - it was such a foreign notion that I thought she was nuts!

So, have you permanently moved, or what?

Oh Leo Kottke - I hadn't thought of him in years. He used to play the Twin Cities quite often and I think I saw him in concert twice. Loved the clip.

I live just a couple of blocks from where Blood on the Tracks was recorded - oh to have been a mouse in the corner.......

Hi Lev - how goes it in Ol' 'New England?
Cold and blustery here in Mn and I'm trying to resign myself to another winter ahead. Bah humbug!

This is one of my favorite video clips or all time. It won't embed. It had been removed from YouTube for many months but I was delighted to see it back up.
Hope you and your framily are well.

Oh yeah, they played just like that, and also some traditional US folk music, like The Crawdad Song. (Sometimes, if it went late into the evening, there would be a few raucous verses added.)
Now you have put me in a chatterbox mood. Several years ago, in northen Mn, a Norweigan farmer came across a carved stonewhile plowing that said the Vikings had traveled inland way before Columbus, blah blah blah. There has been controversy ever since, especially when a neighbor found a bunch of stone carving tools in a shed and then it was revealed that the farmer had extensive knowledge of the runic alphabet. So perhaps he made it up to glorify his heritage? Anyway, he Runestone has its own little museum and I've visited it several times. Too much fun.

Oh oh, did I stumble onto a private conversation with my fellow classic rock friend Craig? Now I'm curious and will have to go check it out.

Anyway, loved the concertina lady - doesn't she make it look effortless. My paternal grandparents were first gneration immigrants from Norway and they had 4 sons who all played a number of instruments by ear (later found out that yes, they could all read music bud didn't want to admit it). Anyway, my one uncle traded a shotgun for a concertina and since he was already proficient on accordian, picked it up in no time. But I recall his being a bit larger.
Family gatherings involved lots of cars pulling up with instruments hanging out the windows and even a couple of beat up old amps, all to be set up in the garage. I could have listened to them play all day long. What lovely memories you have summoned up.........

Psst, I also know that the admin here continually makes statements about the "value of diversity"....ahem.....

Hi Lev,
yeah I guess they dont find my veiws on the subjects politically correct.
I agree with you, I find this to be a very nice website (and if I didn't I would have made the decision to not care about what the Admins think at all, this is why I am still here.)Seems a bit one sided to me though if someone takes a stance they strongly believe about and either have it deleted or be emailed either shut up about it or u get kicked off the site..You do not see me creating blogs or discussions that entice incendiary comments like "tell 3 people" or others along that line.. I guess thats why I am still here. I will leave those blogs and discussions to the type 1's. They seem to be able to get away with them without reprimands.
I heard 5 seconds of the song while watching a show about Tim Leary and knew I had heard it before and it was echoing thru the canyons of my mind and need to find it before it bugged me too much.

Hi Lev,
Yep you are right, that was the name of the band.
It was a song off the Have a Marijuana record..
I would post the you tube video but am already in trouble for my stance in the tell three people the difference between type 1 and type 2, that you just responded to.. Who knows, maybe admins edited that too.. I am surprised of your stance on it seeing you are type 1.,, well what I read of it on your page, I have not been back to original thread because I might read something that might get me fired up and Admins will surely kick me off here.. Think I was some kinda Yippie subversive type.. geese I just come on to help but that "make sure they know I am type 1 subject" fires me up.. I say it it might have its differences but it is one disease.. kinda like how Gay people have to make sure I know they are gay.. I could care less if they are gay or not.. I dont need to know that.. TOO MUCH info!!! See Its 430 AM and I am getting fired up again.. Good thing I am on vacation this week!
Really enjoy your pictures! Along with the stained glass you are quite talented in photography as well!!

Hi Lev. Me again. Now, speaking of the Chieftens, let me know what you think about this......

Ok. Here's something to get your week off to a goot start. Had a heck of a time finding it on YouTube, but, then, I was looking under The Chieftens rather than the Clancy Brothers. Duh.
