Hi, Paul, There are a lot of great low carb alternatives to eggs and meat. I rarely eat meat and prefer something sweet for breakfast. Have you tried making pancakes or muffins with almond or coconut flour? I also make "granola" from toasted nuts-...

Make sure you ask for the whole panel of antibodies. GAD is the most common, but I was negative for that one and had islet cell antibodies.

Hi, Paul, The weight loss is a red flag for LADA, I think. The same thing happened to me. I was quite slim to start with but after I was diagnosed, I quickly lost 25 pounds. I'm guessing that the few pounds I had put on in the last several years h...

I was 139 and after 14 minutes on the exercise bike was 93! I find that if I pedal really, really hard I can get my BG down in about 10 minutes.

Hi, Paul, Some people think it's OK to spike after meals as long as you come down by two hours, but I think it's better to try and keep under 140 at an hour. I have read that big swings can be very stressful on the pancreas, so try to avoid eating...

When I was first diagnosed, and eating a low carb diet, I was really hungry all the time. Eating more protein, but also a higher fat diet can also help keep hunger at bay. I find nuts help me to feel fuller. I also bake with almond meal, coconut f...

Hi, Michelle, I am a bit confused because a TSH of 1.3 is completely normal. You might want to check that out. Perhaps it was O.13? At your age, you do indeed have LADA. True Type 1 is something that happens in childhood. LADA stands for Latent Au...

Hi, Stephanie, What are you taking for insulin? If you are not producing insulin of your own, 15g of carbs will push your BG up 75 points. Are you taking any fast acting insulin with meals? I need to take a shot of fast acting insulin for anything...

I just noticed you are from Manchester! Have a few friends there (I'm an ex-Pat living in Canada now). I'm hoping to hope over the pond soon - to see some of my family and friends.

Hi Libby - just read some of the discussion in the forum you opened up about being off insulin. It sounds like you are doing very well with the regime you and your doctor have set up (glad you cleared that up for some of the doubting Toms that had replied ). Keep up the good work - and I am even more impressed by your blood pressure reading. I am always 120/80 - but I think it's supposed to be lower for diabetics - but can't seem to find any info on that (will ask my endo next time I see him in the Fall).

Libby - I read your comment on the "Joint Issues" discussion - are there any books in particular that you can recommend re an elimination diet - like what to exclude, etc? Thanks.

Hi Libby, I saw in a low-carb discussion that you had some allergy/antibody testing done. I've also had this done, first about 5 years ago and then again this year once I was diagnosed with T1 and obviously had some immune system things going on. I'm just curious--is this a common test to have done in the UK? Here in the US, even when I talk to most doctors, people assume it's the skin allergy test. Also, from my experience, depending on the severity of your reaction to different allergens, it is often possible to add things back in one you've desensitized your immune system to them. The company I have my testing done through recommends a 3 month period for moderate reactions and 6 months for strong. Many of the items I cut out 5 years ago I can currently eat in moderation. Wishing you all the best in navigating everything! Colleen

hey I'm also curious about your diet and excercise stuff.
I work out like.. 5 times/week and my BS is out of control. I'm afraid to give insulin when I work out due to lows... and then if I don't, it's still super high! Do you just eat beggies and protien ??
