So I have had my pump for over 7 years, and as much as I love it, I often see it and think "it looks so plain...". Being a college stundent, a girl, and a music student, I like to keep everything in my life colorful and different. I have the skins from skin-it, but they are a bit expensive to change very often. So I was wondering if anyone knows of things like cases and accessories to spiff up my pump some?

My name is Lindsey, I am new to the TuDiabetes blog, I thought I would just share my story and see if anyone could relate and maybe share some advice.
I have been type 1 diabetic for over 10 years, for as long as I can remember really. I am home from college for the summer right now and recently had what I like to call an early life crisis.
During high school, I let go of my diabetic control. I refused to test, never bolused, and basicly lived on my basal rate and by the skin…

I saw your recent posts about burnout. I was definitely where you've been throughout high school and my first two semesters of college. I would never check my bloodsugar, I'd all guesstimate dosing, and I just wouldn't pay attention to my diabetes needs. It was not healthy. Eventually I found this site and posted about how I was just the worst... I was relieved by all the support I found! Even so, I would take care of myself for week long spurts and then fall back into my old habits.
It wasn't until a year into college I found Students with Diabetes. On my college campus, Nicole Johnson started this organization where T1D adults 18-30 (roughly) come together to commiserate, share stories, and motivate one another. Slowly, but absolutely surely, I started taking care of myself. I've gotten my A1c from 12s (in high school) to 7s, and after a recent conference we held I'm almost positive I'm going to hit a 6.8 at least! Maybe that's optimism, but the point is having a personal group of friends who have been there for me and who inspire me I am healthier. They are healthier too!
Even if it's just seeing diabetes related Facebook posts everyday, I'm constantly reminded that I'm not alone.
I am now the president of my chapter of Students with Diabetes and I manage the national chapters. We don't currently have anything established in Louisiana, but we've begun working with numerous campus' health services to get the ball rolling. If you might be interested in learning more about the organization or how to create a chapter just send me a message.
Or for any other reason! It is one of my greatest joys in life to connect with fellow diabetics, so feel free to stay in touch!
p.s.
When I was at my worst, I was on a pump. I wore it for 6 years and I think going back to multiple injections helped me after a while. Once I decided to start taking care of myself more effectively I found the injections made me more thoughtful regarding what I eat and how I spend my time. Something to think about!
Marie B said… hi Lindsay, welcome to the community! please let me know if you have any questions about our site. I came here over 4 years ago when I was in crisis mode too, and it changed my life. I was alone with my diabetes, and now I've learned so much, and been given the support and encouragement to make the changes that needed to be made. I just had the pleasure of actually meeting scores of Tu members yesterday at the Philly meetup, including the incredible Manny Hernandez, our founder. hey, your dx date happens to be World Diabetes Day! November 14 is always a BIG day around here. again, glad you've joined us.
