Thank All Of You!!!!

Hey Everybody I told a few ppl I would put up a blog when we got back home. He did good. After all the worry this test they ran before they put in stints today found no blockage. Wrong results at the Dr's office I guess. Anyway he had to lay flat on his back for 4 hours (not the best thing to do with a man who has severe back problems what with those disc buldging, etc. He was in soooo much pain and the nurses couldn't find the Dr who done the surgery. One of his partners called it in for him. L… Continue

Then on Tuesday we drove down to Richmond for the burial. My dad made his own box for the ashes. He had a little side business making them for people - I think he had made 14 of them. The top of the box was made from black walnut. Members of the Washington Woodworker's Guild finished it off with great care, and sanded it to perfection. Another family friend is Rector of an Episcopal Church there and he did the service. Of course he added many personal tidbits about my dad which made it really meaningful. After, we noticed he had a license plate holder that supported JDRF. It seems he has a goddaughter with type 1. So I gave him a TuDiabetes card, and told him to tell the parents to stop by and see us online.

I was touched by Reed's honor to my dad.

The memorial service was packed. Twice as many as expected, and they were all spilled out in the hall and adjoining parlor. They were scrambling to add more tea sandwiches and fruit to the serving trays. Several people got up to give personal tributes, and to tell how my dad had helped them. The minister brought up a podium my dad made for the chapel, and also invited everyone to visit the game room later to see the beautiful mahoghany poker table with lovely inlay my dad made about 10 years ago. I totally lost it when we sang "Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy" when we got to the part that goes "Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe" which is a reference to the fact that Jesus was a carpenter. So many people came up to me and said things like "I just love the table your dad made for me". It makes me think I better get busy making more quilts so when it's my time, others will have something handmade by me to remember me by.

It was great to see so many old friends. Many of my parents' friends had kids my same age and a lot of them came too. Also, meeting my 8 mo old grand-niece, Allison was a thrill. She's a good strong baby and smart, too. She's been holding her own bottle since 5 mo, and is crawling. what a beauty!

Ha! I'll look forward to them. Noticed some spot on my uvula and back of throat yesterday. Guessing strep or something like it - don't want antibiotics - try to avoid them at all costs. I'm using a spray from the American Botanical Pharmacy and a few are gone this morning so here's hoping they continue to go away! I am at work tho - as long as I'm not kissing anyone, I think they're safe (i'm not coughing). Anyway - back to the grind. Hope ur doing well.
