If you can't play nice, what's the point ?

Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion,
you must SET YOURSELF ON FIRE !!!!!!!

Everything works out in the end.
If it hasn't worked out ... it's not the end !

It is wiser to keeps one's mouth shut and appear the fool,
rather than open it and remove all doubt.

I wasn't there.
I didn't do it.
I have no idea what you are talking about.
All questions from this day forward can be
sent to my attorney.
Thank you and good night.

TWO Type 1 Diabetic Doctors and a Carbohydrate Counting Class

Posted on April 23, 2008 at 11:15am 1 Comment

A few years ago when I still had Kaiser, I was very fortunate to be

given the opportunity to have two practitioners who were Type 1

insulin dependent diabetics themselves. Dr Rob Zehnder/Zander(sp?)

was my doctor, and was a wonderful wealth of knowledge about

how to best treat diabetes with the most current methodologies

and technologies. He also recommended that I take a carbohydrate

counting class from a Nutritionist named Barbara Greene. These two

people… Continue

The meeting will be 7-9pm. I'm still investigating the where, so I'll let you know. It'll probably be at a bar or restaurant in SF.

I agree, its always great to expand the type 1 network. We all have that 1 thing in common that only we understand. One friend of mine, an african-american guy, once said that "finding another person w/ type 1 would be like 2 black people finding each other in Anchorage, Alaska." He went on to explain that one guy might be there to work on the oil pipelines and the other might be there to save the environment, so really have nothing in common except for the common experience of being a minority.

People with type 1 are about 1 in every 300 people in the US, so in my opinion its very important that we provide ourselves with opportunities to interact. This is why through my job at JDRF I have been organizing an Adults w/ type 1 networking group. For the last several months we have been meeting once a month, usually at a bar to just hang out. Many of the members of this group have been trained to be JDRF Mentors for adolescents and newly diagnosed adults w/ type 1. At our next meeting on Wednesday the 25th, I am hoping to give the group an official name, begin the process of forming a Walk team for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, and brainstorm on some community building and/or fundraising events we can do. I'd love for you to join this group.
