Wow Mike...you're an inspiration. Go to www.dabetes.ca, home of the Canadian Diabetes Association...and click on Team Diabetes, you might find it interesting.
Some Drs put all their focus on the results of the A1c, but the A1c is an average, they don't take into account that many lows might be the reason behind a good A1c....they should look at the whole package; A1c, fasting BG, Post Prandial BG as well as a Glucose Tolerance Test ....that would logically give them a better understanding of how YOUR body metabolizes sugar. You have a great understanding of the complexities of diabetes....don't let some pompous md stand in your way.(not that they're all that way...but it's the characteristic of quite a few!!!)....take care and be well...linda.
ps...Thanks for the support re Meeko. THAT played a trick on my BG!!!

Ah Mike...diabetes is such a complex and illogical illness. I too find that I could eat the same meal on two different days and have very different readings. .....or eat a balanced meal with perfect portion sizes and have a high reading. One explanation for thois is that BG is affected by more than just what you ingest. Stress often brings your BG up....but to a few, it brings it down. Exercise works toward bringing it down (unless your readings are very high....then exercise will just make it higher still)....but I have to ask....how on earth do you get away with just eating 30 gr of carbs per day??? I mean 1/2 a banana is 15 gr....a slice of whole wheat bread is about 20 gr....that's not even one meal!!
I agree with your brother and uncle....you more fit a type 1.5 profile than a type 2. That's where I'm at....5'7'', 125 lbs...never been overweight, but pigeon holed as a type 2. My sugar higher upon rising....and I dip a lot. It's in the family here as well. Let me know what your doc says. It's odd that with an A1c of 6.5 he hasn't dx diabetes! Has he given you a glucose tolerance test...or did you just go for a morning fasting? A glucose tolerance would show how your body responds to/handles a sugar load. Take care....linda.
