Nicole, any time you need us, just holler. I see you've made friends with some of the best here. Doris is fantastic, and Pete too. sorry I was off welcoming new members as you probably saw.

I live in the country too, lots of wildlife up hewre in the mountains, but it only takes 2 hours max to drive to New York City. I know Australia is huge and ppl don't think anything of driving 2 or 3 hours to get to see a friend. I have a good friend who grew up in NSW. now she lives in Istanbul.

there is a interesting Group here where you can look at old diabetes ephemera - someone just posted a picture of a needle from the 80s or earlier - 25 gauge - looks like the fattest needle I remember

http://www.tudiabetes.org/group/diabetesphotomusuem

we have lots of type1s here on the needle. our esteemed admin Gerri for one. she is a friend extraordinaire.

it was pretty brutal, I remember them lancing my finger with a knife and putting the blood on a piece of glass. or they'd take blood out of your arm. mostly we relied on urine testing, which was so imprecise. so we didn't do it much. I didn't get my first bg machine until the early 80s, and it was as big as a brick, so you couldn't put it in your purse. and the needles were much bigger gauge than the tiny ones they have now. I've been pumping for about 20 years now. are you thinking of pumping?

We are a very tight family here. We take care of each other, when one is hurting, we gather around and console. When one has a victory, we celebrate. When one stumbles and needs a hand, we help them back up, as many times as they need it. I got it in 1967 and had my 13th birthday in the hospital. there weren't even blood testing machines back then. I remember coming back to school after my 2 weeks in the hospital, and all the other girls staring at me.

here's the Australia Group

I know it's hard. I hope no one is bullying you or teasing. I also hope you come here often. There are many kind people here who totally "get it". Nicole, I know I'm nosey, but how old are you? I'm going to send you a link to some Groups.
