Debb, could you give more info about your dorsal release? I've been having trouble with my wrist in about that location and the surgeon is talking about a tendon release, but I'm confused by what tendon he is talking about and want to make sure th...

I just had my 6th trigger finger (left thumb) repaired last week. The cortisone injections typically last about 3-6 months for me, but this time it didn't make a dent. The surgery took about 1/2 an hour, longer to get prepped than to have the surg...

You all had a lot of good suggestions. Thank You! Today I tried the same spot on the opposite side with a 6mm instead of a mm and it's working great. I guess I have a strange body type. Sometimes I can't tell if I should use the 9mm or the 6mm. Ag...

Elaine, A blocked site, following a site change is a frequent problem for my son and seldom a basal issue, at all. A kink in the cannula when the site is first inserted is usually the culprit for a rising BG following a site change. The fact that...

Hi, Elaine! I was diagnosed with Type 1 about 15 years ago and have been on a pump for roughly 12. I've experienced the same symptoms you have -- when I do, a site change seems to do the trick. I haven't figured out how to tell in advance if a sit...

I, too, have scar tissue. Almost 15 yrs. on the pump. I'm 6' and 153. I can remember when inserting was easy. The needle of my silhouette would slide into the skin. Now I need a hammer to puncture a hole, then glide it under the surface. When I ha...

28 years and I do have a lot of scar tissue. I try to avoid those spots, but I have built up a resistance to insulin

Elaine, how long have you been using insulin? I always wonder if long termers have lots of bad sites....scare tissue from years of injections.

Help, Please.

If the purpose of using a pump is to achieve better bg results, then it's not working for me. My biggest obstacle seems to be absorption rates and places to insert the infusion set. If I insert on my abdomen, my numbers run high. If I insert on my leg, my numbers are fine. But I can't find enough good sites. My hips and rear do not have a layer of fat, it's all on my abdomen. I'm using the quickset 6mm primarily. I tried the sillouette, but those are medieval torture devices. Does anyone have an… Continue

Pump - Day 1: Independence Day

Today I met with my pump trainer and for the first time in 26 years I am not dependent on a needle. I know, technically it took a needle to get this started, but it is so totally different. What an experience. I am amazed and terrified at the same time. Will I sleep well tonight? Will I have trouble showering in the morning? I just changed clothes for the first time and held the pump in my hand, thinking 'what do I do with this?' I think my basal rate might be set a little high, but it's too soo… Continue

Introducing Me!

Hi! My name is Elaine and I have been type 1 for 26 years. Just today I faxed the paperwork to get my first pump. I've been reading several different blogs for the last year to get some ideas of what life with a pump will be like. I'm not sure I will completely like it, but I still think it's for the best. I'm 45 years old, married and have an almost 19 year old daughter. I'm the only diabetic in my family. It came on pretty quickly after a bad case of food poisoning when I was a freshman in col… Continue
