I'm a 50-year type 1. I have gone through some very poor (as in, no money, no insurance) times. It is tough indeed.
First, I have to warn you against further tattoos on your lower legs. Nothing against tattoos, just that you do NOT want any sort of insult to the skin on your lower extremities.
I was trained as a child by a physician who was himself a type 1. He taught me well, and since I cannot 'pay him back' I am committed to 'paying forward', counseling and lending my 50 years of experience to any 'new' diabetic I encounter. Please feel free to post me, on this board or privately at my email address above.
One thing you can do is to limit your carbohydrates and invest your diet with more protein and fat. The carbs just suck up insulin, no two ways about it.
You need to get hold of your A1c, and soon. It's important. Post me. I'm certain that I can help.
