Need help with skiing...

So I went skiing in Tahoe over the holiday break. Whenever I do a new activity, there is a learning curve, but I was really challenged by diabetes last week. I'm going to outline the basics, and maybe some of you can weigh in on some suggestions or what you would have done differently...(p.s. One Touch doesn't operate in freezing temperatures, so I used one of those "toe warmer" pouches to keep it warm in my backpack so I could check my sugar when I wanted. It worked great.)(I'm on a…See More

Hi Rachel,
When you started Lantus how much did you take? How often did you have to increase doses? By how much? WHat are you currently using? Did you ever have lows with Lantus?
I am asking all of these questions because I have started Lantus and was doing well at 8 units then OK at 9 units and now my fasting am sugars are rising. I am currently taking the Lantus before bed. I have read about some people experiencing lows on Lantus evn though that is not supposed to happen. My diabetes team keeps saying that anything under 130 in the am is acceptable however I think that is too high based on what I have read. Right now at 9 units I am waking up between 120 and 135. I am just wondering how things went for you when you were o Lantus. Thanks, Susan

Hi Rachel,
I wanted to update you:
I finally had my appointment with the endo that my PCP recommended. He diagnosed me as a Type I as I had suspected. He said I am a type I unmasked by pregnancy. Apparently I am in the honeymoon phase. I am happy to finally have some answers and have a doctor that I think will be able to help me out. Did you honeymoon and if so for how long?
Thanks! Susan

Rachel, since you seem to related to medical field, i need some information if you can find it out for me. While i was in US i was using Novolog for my Pump. Now that i am off the pump. I was looking for a fast acting Insulin that is similar to Novolog in US. In India i found that i can buy NovoRapid. Is there any way you can figure if i can use NovoRapid as a substitute for Novolog? From the website of the company it appears to be a substitute, i mean both seem to have the same activity time and reaction time. But wanted to double confirm on this. I really appreciate your help.
Thanks.

Hi...I did actually have these labs run while I was pregnant and on insulin (my odctor wasn't sure of that would skew the results...???) and I was negative for GAD antibodies but my c-peptide was low, .3 (some people have said that even with the negative GAD the low C-peptide indicates LADA. do you know anyone with my situation?? ). I have an appointment with an endo on the 13th so hopefully I will know "for sure." I will keep you posted (and probably have more questions for you):))!

Hi Rachel, I noticed that you also developed diabetes after gestational diabetes. I just had a baby 7 months ago and I had gestational diabetes. I am now diagnosed as Type II, but I still have my doubts about what type I have. My doctor did the c-peptide test and he said they are normal. He said that he is sure that I am type II, but he didn't do the antibodies thest GAD or something like that. Did you get these tests done? How did you find out you were LADA instead of Type II? I hope things are going well for you now. Take care.
