You can read most of the material that is in my book on the Blood Sugar 101 web site. The book presents the information in a more organized fashion, but it is the same information. Read the "read this first" page to get an idea of what the site covers.
Hope it helps!
To help you with your weight, you might check out the book Protein Power which is at many libraries. The diet it explains is one that works very well for people with diabetes.
I just read your message. First off, it is very important for you to get a new glucose meter, so you can keep a close eye on your blood sugars.
I recommend you get a copy of the book Blood Sugar 101, by Jenny Ruhl, She is a member of our community:

I am glad you are feeling better. Getting back on your meds will help alot! If you can get some sleep that will help too. Its hard not having cookies and candy to drown my sorrows any more. I go back to work on Monday and it will help being back in a routine. Happy New Year and remember, all the support you want is here. Sue B.
Welcome! I am also T2 recently diagnosed. When my doctor told me I was diabetic I freaked. I didn't know how I would live without bread & sweets. I was pretty sure I would not be able to. Then I calmed down and thought about the alternatives. I switched from sugar to Splenda. Only had an occasional Hershey Kiss after a meal and ate alot of fat free, sugar free yogurt. I have lost 17 lbs. since Sept. My A1C's went from 8.7 to 6.2 in 3 mnths. and I feel great. The holidays have been very hard and I have eaten alot more junk than I should, but I am managing to keep my BG steady and I know I will get back on track thanks to all the support I get. Don't be afraid to ask for support and help. The nice thing about TuDiabetes is there is someone available 24 hrs a day, and we have all gone through the same things. Good luck and stay in touch!!
